Which vehicle for a family with three kids? (No Minivans)

Guys,

what are you all having success with these days on fitting 3 car seats in a car with a family looking to be mostly outdoors. i have a 5 yr, 3.5 yr old and one coming this summer.

Right now I am thinking a supercrew pickup like a ford raptor or getting a 3rd row suv like an escalade.

what are your guys thoughts?

hahaha, nice one! Hence the reason for no minivan. imagine the dissapointment after the outpatient procedure and having that thing to ride in on the way home.

I don't have any kids, but I love my F150 Supercrew. More space than any sedan especially in the back. Plus it's a truck, so it can do truck shit, unlike a lot of the SUVs these days. Hauled our 7000lbs RV across the country without skipping a beat. All while having more luxury features than many luxury cars.

If you only care about hauling kids then maybe the new Expedition, or if you're a baller the new navigator is pretty sweet.

I don't know..maybe not kidding.

We had 2 kids and a '69 Camaro. Didn't seem to be a problem "then" Now people think they need an X5..lol. But I think a Forester is fine.

i had a glk350 and couldnt do much as a family once number 2 got here. x5 did the trick with 2 kids but the bench is too small to fit all the car seats.

Extended family member (in-law of an in-law) also had the minivan aversion and got the F150 super cab (or whatever is basically the front half of an Expedition) thinking it'd be great to haul his two kids in. He hates the thing and it's a giant PITA to even just get them to daycare in the morning.

Meanwhile my brother and his wife got a Nissan Quest when they had their second. That van is amazing for its purpose and anytime I'm watching their kids (and carting them and their friends to sports crap) I require that they give me the van also.

To each their own, but the "I'm not cool" thing goes away super quick when I realize I can transformer around the doors and tailgate and captains seats and rear entertainment with the push of a few buttons.

You really should consider a minivan at some point with three kids. Nobody really wants to do it, it the reality is that 5ey are made for families with young kids. I had three of them. Got out of them when the kids hit their teens. They are so practical. Your kisses will not (can not) one your doors into another vehicle, so you don’t have to worry where you park. At some point, it isn’t just your kids, as you will carpool with other kids. The walkthrough from first row to the back will, many times, become a necessity on trips and you can pretty much only do that in a minivan. You will no longer bang your head as you bend over trying to put your kid in the back seat of a sedan, or just buckling/unbuckling them in. They have cup holders everywhere and storage pockets everywhere. Your daily family life, especially when traveling, will benefit. Trust me. Did that and saw many friends and family members do that. There is a reason they exist and it is for people in your situation.

Had Ford explorer, went with minivan and I love it, easy to get the kids in and out and plenty of room.

I honestly do not understand the sentiment. A full size SUV is a worse tool for the job in almost every conceivable way. I know guys that drive Minivans and 911's, right tools for the right job.

i don't get the stigma and don't get the insecurity.

I have 3. 10, 8 and 6. We looked around a bit before our third and did not want a minivan. Honda Pilot did it for us. Space for three car seats wide in the second row was the main selling point. We are now on our third pilot and have my F80. I will say that the Honda minivan has better creature comforts(large screen for movies, etc) but we have been happy so far with the Pilot. You can go bigger but for the money and the residual on the lease with the fully loaded version we have been happy. I have been in the same monthly payment for the past 8 years with three different fully loaded pilots. Wife ultimately wants a suburban but that's for running the kids and their friends around. Btw once you get out of rear facing seats things get better. We have actually taken the f80 on a couple road trips and all three have been good in the back seat.

i get that they are the right tool but its not what i am into.

I am not insecure, actually i just finished a pedicure with my wife. just dont feel offended if i knock your taste. i am looking for a car that suits my taste and style and fits my family comfortably. whats wrong with a full size suv, the x5 did a great job with two kids. So i am hoping to find the same style but in a bigger class and the X7 isnt something i want to spend money on.

I posted this thread to see which will work better, thats all and the more i research i do the escalade with captain chairs looks good

hope that makes sense, i had a minivan growing up, so its nice, just not what i am into.

Tahoe with captain chairs might work also but I also would just put my kids in the trunk if I had any so I could cruise by the high school like old times.
