1 Series rival revealed (Audi A3 3doors)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
The engine line-up is unconfirmed but is likely to include both petrol and diesel options. The petrol engines are expected to have an entry-level 1.2-liter with 105 PS (77 kW / 104 hp) and a 2.0-liter with 211 PS (155 kW / 208 hp). On the diesel side, we can expect a 1.6-liter TDI with 105 PS (77 kW / 104 hp) as well as a 2.0-liter TDI which pumps 180 PS (132 kW / 178 hp).

Looks like an A4 front and A8 tail... Yuk! Just a facelift IMHO

Certainly evolution not revolution. I'm sure it will be a very good car, but I've no regrets about buying another 1er.

Ps anyone else see similar headlights to the 1er? Interesting given that's the one thing the haters seem to hate about the 1er...

Ok so this is not a perfect comparison because the camera angle is looking down on the Audi as appose to directly at the BMW, but there is definitely similarity between the downwards slope from the outside to the inside, and the way they cut away from underneath

That comes up in a 2d image as you cant really see how the front grill leans out and lines from the lights continue to the grill. I think this is the main reason people say the 1er looks better in the metal.

This image shows what i'm talking about (sorry to steal another user's picture). See how there are bodywork lines and features between the lights and the grill, and the grill leans forward.

Fair comparision

I think the xenon headlamp and the wheels can make the diff!

The front image also dependes on the inclination (bad move for bmw in this case)!

Studying these pictures carefully makes clear how interesting the lines are. I believe this design will stay fascinating long after you get bored of the A3.

Allthough I am very happy having ordered the M package, the M front sort of takes away much of the styling idea, instead it's adding more traditionality.....

Honestly it's pretty cool new style in and out. And I'm afraid to say the tail lights of A3 is slicker than the 1er's. (I still think the 1er tail looks like VW Polo)
Overall, like BMW and my 1er way better!!!

Looks nice in an inoffensive Russian doll Audi design with some sharper lines. Can't form a strong opinion about either way. 1 series much more interesting and rather more provocative. New volvo v40 hatchback (image leaked today, to be launched at Geneva) looks more interesting than the Audi, so does the new A class.

One more week before my 1 arrives and no regrets having opted for the BM.

BMW has the upper hand with rear-wheel-drive, but the styling is pretty horrible in my opinion. I prefer the style of the Audi A1, although the A3 is quite decent too.

Seriously those headlights look like falling away from the 1er... Looks better in person but you just need to live with not been able to photograph your car..

the A3 front looks much better than the 1er... there is just no way to defend that....
the A3 back looks like an elongated look at the Jeep Grand cherokee lol

The interior of the BMW looks really nice and it's probably much better car than the A3 but the exterior it's a mess from some angles

Excellent points were it not for the fact we are discussing the Audi A3 here

Again we are only discusing the outside... how about the drive? I have my new 120d since this week, and there is no way the audi can keep up with the bimmer. Yes in a staight line perhaps, but acceleration in 2 and 3 gear on a curved road? Its front wheel drive and if you come close to 180 bhp you'll never get the power on the ground. RWD is priority for driving pleasure, you could"t care less about the looks once you are behind the wheel. By the way, mine looks stunning, from every angle in my opinion.

Dominiek: I have a 120d in order for delivery beginning of May.
Some testers report they are disapointed by engine vibrations, others are giving credit for the sophisticated engine.
When testing it myself in September, I was so "busy" driving and enjoying the handling, grip and driveability tatt I did not notice the caracter of the typical diesel vibrations.
How do you find this aspect in your own car?

I don"t have vibrations, not even at 1000 rpm. It is a diesel engine but when its warmed up, you can hardly hear it. I can take a turn in tirth gear, leaving the corner at 1000 rpm and it pulls straith away. Not bad for a 4-cil engine. From 1300 rpm to 4000 rpm it puls very strong. Daily driving is possible between 1000 rpm and 1500 rpm. When you are between 2500 and 3500 revs then it goes like a rocket... So far very pleased with the car. Day to day driving in traffic results in 6l/100km. You will have to search very hard to find a car with this kind of performance and econmics combined. Maybe i should have gone for the sports auto... only regret so far, but the manual works very fine.
