It's a fair point - though they could leverage the R&D from the 8 series.
Personally I agree with you by the way, it's a very good point. Depends how good your BMW modern history is.

Do we all recall the HUGE fanfare that came with Carbon Core on the 7. Was that 5 years ago now?

I was really expecting the tech to filter down very quickly and am amazed it's barely mentioned now.

Sadly instead of lighter we are also getting heavier. Not 100% on BMW that due to safety regs but still sub optimal.

Q - why is the M5 CS a G30 instead of F90?

Apparently PHEV with V8, using the same combo than the upcoming X8M. Later on, full EV. But who knows what will come in 2024?

Power has never been an issue for the M5. Reduce weight, sort out suspension, fix the steering, make it look less pedestrian would be a better recipe here IMO

So we get a 4WD iX1, but only a RWD iX3.
A 4wd iX3 could replace my i-Pace, but I'm not sure about the iX1 size as I have 3 kids and all...

The iX3 was a huge fail. Guess the AWD tech just was not available yet.

This is indeed going to be a sad day. I wouldn't mind PHEV because at least it will still carry over the same awesome turbo v8 we have now, but full EV, no thanks!

My X5 lease ends in May 2022. Would love to take a BMW dealer up on a heavily discounted M5CS!

Profit margins...profit margins for an international corporation is the point.

Personally I like the rear middle seat delete with 2 rear bucket seats instead. Wish they offered that option more often.

I would never stick 3 adults in the back unless for emergencies.

M5 CS

Quote:
F90 M5 CS will be in production for precisely one year from March '21 to February '22 as a 2022 model. In the end, it won't be as extreme as many hoped. The same engine as regular M5 tuned to 625hp, CF buckets, more CF in the body, no middle passenger in the back, special wheels seem to be the only major things.
Two questions on this:
1) any thoughts on when the debut could be? Before the end of the year would seem likely to me.
2) Is that 625hp metric (PS) or imperial (bhp)? 625PS would match the Comp, and no power boost doesn't make much sense for a pricier, halo model.

Sure M4CS is a two door coupe, that's why it's moving very slow, and yet still a bit expensive($20-50) than a 82K M4 comp. M5CS is a four door sedan, it will move just like the regular M5, I think they will discount the M5CS a lot compare the discount rate on regular M5, but monthly payment will be higher than M5 comp. another example will be M3CS, they are a lot more experience than 80K M3 comp, and they sold out fast because it's 4 door sedan. People wants practical and speed.

I was referring to the US market. I'm on the app so I don't know which market you're located in.

But here in the US, no CS sold out quick until it was heavily discounted where leases were literally less than comps, and some even less than base cars.

M5CS will be even worse than the M3/4 since no one tracks an M5 as much as an M3, if at all.

I am talking about US market only. "But here in the US, no CS sold out quick until it was heavily discounted where leases were literally less than comps, and some even less than base cars." This is the case for two door coupe, M3 CS was never cheaper than 80K M3 COMP in terms of Discount% and monthly payment M5CS is four door, it will never be cheaper than M5 COMP(MSRP 122K) regardless of the purpose, track or not. we will see.

I was referring to lease deals. If you don't believe me, just search the F80 forum. Many M3CS lease deals were less than M3CP deals.

Absolutely, we saw CS leases below $800... some people got 77x$ deals which is below some base leases back in the day.
