F20 Headlights

Hi guys,

New to BMW's...
Have just picked up a 2013 118i,
I notice overnight we have HEAPS of condensation in one headlight.

Is it a case of new seals on the caps you take off to change bulbs? Or just new caps?

Sorry if this has been asked before

Hi.

It does look like the case in the manual, page 256. Of course, you should check the caps first (if they are closed properly) especially as it's your passenger side, the "wetter" one.

Yeah I've had the two caps off, and made sure the seals are clean and free of any dirt etc so they seal properly.

Mabee there is a lens to body seal that is degraded?

Apparently, the moisture gets in and fails to evaporate. This should require removing the headlight to inspect it, perhaps. Or applying some repair kit they have if you know how to use it.

I had similar issue with xenon front left headlamp. Took the headlight out and ran some windscreen sealer round the lens to housing joint.

Problem solved.

Relatively easy to get the headlight out. PITA to get it back in.

Where? You made me look it up: they say Kiwis aren't Aussies and vice versa (Auckland remains in New Zealand and so says his flag).

Australia is known for stealing all of NZ’s good stuff. But yeah we have some common retail chains so figured i’d link him to the Aussie site.

I think the water drains down the bonnet channel onto the headlight. The headlight has a hollow at that spot and water gets through any break in the seal in that area.
