Planning to lower F20 to reduce body roll && tyre size

Hi,

I bought a set of H&R lowering springs about 35mm drop, I want to lower the car due to body roll when cornering as I take twisty road with some potholes to work and I can feel the car leaning. But curious how well it will sit with 16" wheels Will the tyre rub on the arch due to chunkiness of the tyre and being lowered?

Has anyone tried lowering their bimmer with stock 16"s? mind posting some pics even if it was an old pics.

Also, what's the correct tyre size on 18s for F20s? Planning to get mv2s as well from E46, but just want to know the correct tyre size.

Thanks

You should be fine with 225/40/18.
Do you want to use springs or go for coilovers?

Lowering the car will not really reduce body roll, but stiffer springs and damper (which lowering kits ofter are) will. The tyres will not rub the arches.

springs, I see can I use 225/45/18 in the front? Some people said the same "225/40/18" for fronts and "255/35/18" for the rears.

If you go with stiffer springs to reduce body roll, you should either change to stiffer dampers, or run with adjustable dampers always in sport mode. Otherwise the car will be more bouncy, and be worse handling wise than stock.

I guess 225/45-18 would be possible, but it is not a good fit for the car. If the car is xDrive, it will definitely not work. 225/40-18 is the correct size.

From my own personal past experience and experience of my friends, simply using lowering springs (with stock dampers) are usually a pretty bad idea... not only the damping force of the stock dampers would not match with the lowering springs, the geometry might be off (less optimized), and you might also be riding on the bump stops if the drop is too much...

As others stated, to reduce body roll you cannot rely on springs only. Here's my 2 cent...

Sports shocks and especially stiffer Anti Roll Bars will help a lot. Stiffer bushings will tidy up everything even more.

As for wheels you should be fine with stock 16"s... I believe you can lower as much as you'd like without anything rubbing.

I have the M-Sport suspension and there's body roll. I like it. It makes the car lean down and hug the road when accelerating "hard" out of corners. It's the only times I notice the body roll. Other than that the 116d feels planted (for a normal car).

I have 18"s with 225/40/18 upfront and 245/45/18 for the rear. It came that way from the factory. The summer tires are gone and thank god for that because they're RFT and I've never experienced something so bad. Totally ruins the behaviour and tramlines as mad. Completely bonkers to drive.

Regarding fitment I could easily space out the rear wheels 0.8-1.0 at the rear and 0.5 at the front without rubbing... Maybe I'll try, at least at the rear.

It's 245/35/18 at the rear. You have to admit that. An easy tip if you really miss it: the wider the lower to maintain the same effective diameter of the wheel.
