F20 real mpg

So I've been getting less than 20 mpg on a 2018 bmw 120i, I know fuel economy is always worse than advertised but mine is less than half of that. Please post you mpg just to compare

Ps. I live in a mountain area son I expected MUCH worse fuel economy than advertised, but not as bad as im getting...

Google HonestJohn realMPG, type in your reg and that'll give you an accurate reading of what MPG you should be getting. 20 does seem really low though

I will win this easily, I think I have the worst fuel consumption ever.

Ride: 118i B38

Fuel consumption: 6.5 km/l (15.3 l/100km) or (15.3 US mpg)
Avg speed: 14.5 km/h (8.7 mph)
Full tank: 267 km
Tank duration: 14 days

I think i live in the worst traffic ever, 14.5 km/h avg speed for 14 days of usage is just ridiculous, in a side note, when flooring the car in a highway the consumption is around 14 km/l (7.1l/100km) or (33 US mpg)

But if you drive less than 20 km every day at that speed, it would be faster and easier and a lot cheaper with a bicycle (particularly a pedelec).

Now I'm currently using my 2014 116i more in the city than on motorways, sadly. I'm averaging almost 9l/100km (32 mpg UK). But on motorways it's easy to do 6-7l/100km (40-47 mpg).

On Norwegian roads, it is easy to do 5-6 L/100km. Seems like the most economical speed is 60-70 km/h. Slower than 50 or faster than 80 makes the car more thirsty.

The 3-cylinder 1.5 liter B38 engine seems to have pretty much the same fuel consumption as the 4-cylinder 1.6 liter N13 engine. It also has the same power output (136 hp indicated, but close to 150 in reality)

I agree the sound of the 3 cylinder engine is more enjoyable than the four, but it is unfortunately almost not audible at all. I would have liked to have a lot more intake sound from it.

Just did a 1200km round trip (Barcelona - Madrid) averaging 40mpg on motorways, driving between 75-95mph with some 110mph peaks. Not bad.

260mile trip yesterday, doing 80mph on the motorway most of the time, 44mpg. The best consumption so far, although I went from 800 meters high to 50 Doing the same trip the opposite way it's impossible to do better than 37mpg.

Garage List
F21 owner here. My car's done over 86K now from new and I still achieve 31 mpg on average with the odd long drive keeping that figure up. Just pootling around on short trips will see it plummet to 24 or thereabouts. The N55 engine has been remarkably consistent and predictable all this time, despite enthusiastic driving from yours truly.

I just picked up a 2011 F20 120d - Auto

I am getting around 45 mpg on the motorway, most i've peaked on pure motorway driving (reset once up to motorway speed) was about 50 mpg at 60-70 mph.

Should this car be getting more?

Is there anything I can/should check or service to increase MPG? Like clean out the EGR etc?
