The 1-series is an "old" model everywhere but here. BMW can't really help it that they released these cars in the US far after doing so in Europe.

I drive w123 mercedes diesels, because they last forever. I recently bought a diesel coupe, which has a total of only around 8800 made, worldwide as I recall (perhaps 8800 sold in the US). This makes parts for a lot of things VERY difficult to get.

A 1-series, while a great car, is not a porsche or M3. It may not becme collectible, but just be a great car that has a following, like my w123 300CD, but with ever more expensive and hard to find parts...

according to scott27 at germancarzone.com, the next 1er will be introduced in summer 2011; prior to that at the end of 2010 the new 3 and 4 cyl. turbo engines will have their details presented. he has stated previously that the next 1er coupe won't be out until 2013 so i guess the hatch wil be the 2012 model(don't know if the u.s. will see it however).

I was going to ask about this, but decided to do some research.

It looks like they started selling the BMW 1 series as a 2004 model, introducing it into the US market in 2008.

so a 2011/2012 model sounds about right.

Collector car? Not sure how that is determined, being rare? Then would that make the Yugo a collectors car? It better become a collectors car real fast, given the rate of depreciation it has...something needs to help keep the 1 Series market price up...it's not going to be its reliability ratings, that's for sure.
