M140i: taking delivery soon ...

... almost the last of the breed - Dealer has offered 19" 624 M wheels at a brilliant price.... BUT - they are sold with Run Flats .... hmmmm

Seems strange that a 'compatible' wheel set would be offered with RFs - when the stock car has the sporty non-RFs ...

Thoughts ?

Do worry not. The dealer isn't cheating. Those are accessory wheels: https://shop.bmw.co.uk/INTERSHOP/web...e=&SKU=2352863. And they are offered for M140i: https://www.bmw.co.uk/bmw-ownership/...s-configurator. Furthermore, RFs can be had on M140i from the factory according to a car configurator (as an option: scroll to "Räder, Reifen", notice "Bereifung mit Notlaufeigenschaften").

Thanks - I didnt think there was any 'cheating' going on, just surprised that the M140i tuned suspension would be OK for RFs.

Interesting how different the German Configurator is to the UK ...

In Norway, you could choose runflats or not on the M140i, while other F20s could only be ordered with runflats. Lots of customers don't want the runflats, and sell those wheels to the dealer before the car is delivered, and go for aftermarket wheels with ordinary tyres. I did that with my first F20. On the one I have now, I wore out the runflats first, before putting regular tyres on the stock wheels.

Why not? RFs are just heavier (this mustn't be critical: rims bigger or smaller than standard are allowed, after all) and harder. I would believe the reason for non-RFs with powerful engines is just the better grip from their softer sides: people claim they drive M2 in snow while I can hardly move due to wheel spin (winter RFs as well). I also doubt my M-Sport suspension differs really much from the M135/140i (just lighter/heavier engine accommodation difference?).

They push packed options in the UK. In US it's even worse, hardly any choice/flexibility at all. But in the free world it's mostly(?) the German way: you can take a package and save or tick the options as you like for your money.

I have 225/45-17 Nokian R2 runflats in the winter, and I think they are quite okay. Would buy them again.

Mine are the same but simply R (it's their sixth season). I exaggerated a bit but yes, plenty of wheel spin and it's annoying. I had my doubts about them from the beginning, honestly. What I really like though is they are good when it comes to braking, this is the most important, of course! But setting off and speeding up is mostly some struggle. This time I had to swap front and rear (disobeying BMW recommendation ) because rear had only a bit left above the wear indicator while the front (currently rear) looked pretty new. I hope I'll afford R3 next season (this time it just did not happen).

It's pretty much the same with my summer factory (Bridgestone Potenza S 001 RFT R17 mixed) ones. I can spin them accelerating even into (applying it with the clutch) the 3rd gear (sometimes, a bit?) I guess though they looked not (too) bad yet when I took them off this time.

The S001 RFT were disappointing to me. Noisy, tramlining a lot, wearing fast, uncomfortable, and not very grippy. Michelin PS4 was better at everything.

My Nokian R2s are 3 years old now, but still provided impressive traction at the ice track weekend this winter. I suspect BMW have tuned the fake limited slip differential software in the LCI cars. Now I can no longer feel when it engages, and the tractions seems to be slightly better than on my 2012 F20.

Picked up the M140i LCI-2 yesterday .... most obvious difference is the Instrumentation style ... dont like the 'look' personally ...

... also they've redesigned (of all things) the Wiper stalk switch - you now have to twist for the rear wipe - making the thing gawky & bulbous - cant see what was wrong with the old one !

and the Indicator Stalk operation feels less smooth ?

On a positive note, theres now an Oil Temperature display gizmo in the small central area where MPG et al is displayed .... about time !

Oh, have they finally fixed the indicator stalk? That is maybe my least favourite thing in the F20. I can never be friends with it.

I have noticed that some newer BMWs have a better solution, more like the older cars, where it was perfect.

If I want to go left in a roundabout, I need to operate it 3 times now. First indicate left hard, then light right to stop blinking left, then light right to give 3 blinks right.

It would be a lot better to have make a mechanical solution where the stalk does not return to center when it is pushed over the threshold, like it always used to be.

Actually, now I've sat in the car for a longer journey this morn, theres more wrong with the Indicator Stalk - its more bulky & 'bulbous' - presumably for symmetry with the Wiper Stalk - so now it obscures totally the Start/Stop button & the ASS disabled LED ...

Just like the LCI-1 the operation is OK for me - keeping it lightly pressed maintains indication, so in your scenario its better - as long as you dont go past the detente point ... it just doesnt 'feel' as smooth - it thats the right word !

Mine was sold with runflats, but asked for a set of Pilot supersport, wish was possible with an extra of 60€ for all 4 tyres. So easy choice for me! 😂😂
