Fitting 118i Oil Cooler to 116i

Hi, Guys, I've got a Pre-LCI 116i with a stage 1 remap, when driving around hard I see my oil temp reaching 120+ so I was thinking of retrofitting the oil cooler from the 118 engine.

has anyone done this before and which parts would I need?

I've checked on realOEM and found the whole assembly on eBay for around £200 so I just wanted to know if it's just Plug n Play?

TIA

It's the same engine, just uprated to 177bhp, I believe ,so should fit straight on.

Also fit an oil catch can as excessive crankcase fumes entering the combustion chambers can cause detonation that will wreck a piston very quickly (as i found out in 2010 with a year old DS3 with basically the same Prince engine).

My pre lci 116i is great after a MHD stage 1 remap. Just fitted an oil catch can this afternoon.

Please update the thread when you have fitted it.

Is this the one on ebay?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165278747445

it doesn't seem to fit the pre lci - meant for the 1.5l 3cyl 118i. (2015>) I think.

Hey IJO, taking your advice and just ordered a Mishimoto CC so will fit that on the weekend.

Thinking of getting an external Oil Cooler and fitting that as the OEM one seems to fit the 3 cyl which is a pain.

I also got a Gravity Performance De-Cat downpipe and a Darkside upgraded intercooler on its way so will keep the post updated

I fitted a Gravity back box last week. (£249 after discount voucher)

They advertised it on ebay as 'cat back' but it isn't. It attaches behind the centre box and required a connector to join them which they didn't supply.

It is a high quality product with excellent welding and accurate bends so fitting was no problem.

Seems to have made a difference above 4000rpm and is also no louder than the original.

Please post some photos of the CC. I did fit a small one but I can't find suitable pipes other than buying a replacement pipe and modifying it.

An oil cooler isn't a bad idea given how hot the oil gets when driving quickly but I'm not sure how easy it is to get to the existing one to connect it.

Did you ever fit an oil cooler and catch tank?

I bought off bay for under £20 - the red anodised type with a separator and dipstick.

It's really well made and came with some stainless wire wool in addition to the separator.

Nothing showing on the dipstick yet although I haven't done many miles.

I also changed the plugs for NGK Iridium which are grade cooler and a couple of days ago, received the Ignition Projects multispark coils from the US. (similar to Okada)

After changing the plugs, cold starting was a bit rougher and hesitant and this has now gone and the car also feels more lively - almost as if it was in Sport.

Mpg could be slightly better to but it's too early to tell.
