First let me start off by saying I have no idea if I’m posting this in the right section, I made an account on here earlier because google wasn’t particularly helpful.

I recently bought a 1-series and planned to upgrade to Apple CarPlay, however I’ve just gone on the connected drive store and it says that my car is not compatible. It’s a 19 plate (but not the new model) so I figured there wouldn’t be much of an issue.

Is there another way I can get CarPlay? Or is it something as simple as needing to upgrade to something different on the store?

Hi Sir

Two methods to check your Head unit can be upgraded to Carplay

1. Use E-sys to read FSC status, If you have "AppID 323(0x143)" , you can activate Carplay.

2. Pull out head unit and check WiFi aerial connector. If you have WiFi aerial connector on back panel, you can activate Carplay.

I’ve just received an email about this and BMW have said “our cars require Apple CarPlay preparation as part of their standard specification, so I'm afraid there isn't an option to retrofit this.”

Is there a workaround I can use to get carplay? I’ve seen that people sell dongles which you can hook up to your car but would this require a new screen?

I am just about to pick up a Feb 2019 M140i with professional nav, but no wireless charging. I thought I would have been able to activate, but the connected store says no.

Am I out of luck?

I installed this kit from xcarlink in my 2014 116i (http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/)
I have a 2014 with CIC-version but they have for NBT as well.
Works like a charm!
