You'll like it.

It starts a new "timeline" so there are no real references to the TV show or prior movies.

Seeing Leonard Nimoy again was a nice cameo, definitely showing his age.

In terms of all the technical stuff they kept it pretty tame, that is what made it viewable by anybody.

Yes, but using E=MC2, to produce enough E to implode the planet would require M to be HEEEEE-UGGGGEEEEE, so you wouldn't be walking around with it in your hands, you'd never be able to carry it. Carrying it in a syringe was the point of my post.
