Toyota Supra to drop hybrid engine, for a BMW Inline 6-Turbo?

"Corroborating earlier reports, an unnamed German source has told Car and Driver that Toyota will build a bigger model than the next-gen Z4, powered by a BMW-sourced turbocharged inline-six engine rather than the four-cylinder engine that will likely be found under the hood of BMW's roadster.

Toyota is allegedly planning to revive the Supra nameplate, making the inline-six a suitable choice to maintain consistency with the retired generations. Styling is expected to be inspire by the FT-1 concept car (pictured) that was introduced last year in Detroit."

"Toyota has decided to drop the hybrid drivetrain in favor of a BMW-sourced turbocharged inline-six. And it gets even better: the Supra’s rear-wheel-drive chassis will be developed mainly by BMW, too. So what exactly will Toyota bring to the table?"

Jei! An other bat mobile that looks pre-crashed. Just what we need.

Why not just use the tried and true 2JZ modified for Direct Injection??? I'm not understanding this. Don't get me wrong, I love BMW's i6 turbo engines!

EDIT: Obviously Toyota would also need to develop a strong cast aluminum block to replace the cast iron 2JZ block. So, never mind. Basically they'd need to develop a whole new engine.

I personally love the look of this concept car. If I were in the market for a nice 2 seater coupe this would have been a test drive

I think it is a great looking concept. Very reminiscent or the TVR Sagaris from that high 3/4 angle.

Sagaris is one of my all time favorite cars. I agree it's actually pretty similar looking.

Same here man! I will never forget seeing (well hearing first...by quite a while) one in Canary Wharf in London. Absolutely stunning piece of aggressive and distinctive design.

They've shot up in value the last couple of years.

Why was this moved to non-BMW content? I'm fairly certain it pertains to BMW, does it not?
