Hi!

Doing this retrofit and I'm wondering - why does F3x/F20 heater button doesn't work? Does it have different wiring or is it the button itself?

i'm not sure why it didn't work, but I guess it has to how the button communicate with the SZL. There are same issues when retrofitting touch column SZL to the G30/G11, where you have to replace the steering column adjustment switch to an older part number.

I've ordered replacement button, as I couldn't get button to work even when I've moved the wiring in respect to schematics on TIS. Will update if I get to know how to make the original one to work.

Regarding the coding, I've tried numerous settings, but my long-throw blinkers do not work

Inside the FEM_BODY I've changed
LIN_VARIANTE_SZL -> szl_aic_4band_fla

3075 FS_TYP_SZL to "not rastend"
3080 WW_SZL_TYPE to "not rastend"

But I can't see those fields. I'm using E-sys 3.30.1 w LauncherPRO 2.8.1. I think it might be one of the UNBELEGT values, but I'm not sure how should I proceed with that. Any tips?

On other news - I've managed to make the old button work in a way.

I've had to swap the wires (really easy, just need a needle or a super small flathead screwdriver, and need to open up the SZL side plug of the heated button)

The working order is 3,1,2 instead of 1,2,3

Now, the steering wheel heater turns on and off by the press of the button, but I couldn't find out why the LED light doesn't stay turned on in the button. Upon inspection of the button's inside, it seems like the F15 has more electronics inside, so that might be the difference why it doesn't stay with the light on. Here are some pictures if anyone is interested:

Hello, I've also tried to do this retrofit this to my 2013 m135, as I wanted to add the heating option anyway.
But after adding the stalks, they don't seem to work correctly.
I have the Idrive version at 2023 and I believe the FEM has also been updated as I see the new options listed.
I've followed this post and set everything I should be but nothing seems to respond properly. The front wiper blades seem to just auto wipe and you can't stop them.

Is anyone able to help me with this?
Have attached pictures of the stalk I've purchased.

Hmm. You have connected all connectors?

Did you buy it from F15 or F25? I think the F25 can be a solution if there are problems with retrofitting the F15 SZL. It seems like the F15 works fine for an LCI II, but not for the earlier cars (?).

Hey

The advert stated "BMW X5 F15 WIPER INDICATOR STALK WITH SQUIB 6827370"

So this is never going to work then for the Pre LCI & I need an F25 one?
Tbh, I really just want an lci one that gives me heating function. As Im struggling to find an f20 one, I thought I would try this method.
Where do you see the actually part number on the stalks?
Also how do you know if it has heating?

I see, so what year was your car?
Did you have to code it in or did it just work?
Any ideas on my issue?

Yeah I did do some changes following some vids but didn't seem to make a difference. So maybe what @BMW-ALPINA said, I may need a f25 one.

Watching BMW Doctor he does mention all firmware needs to be updated which My i-level is showing:
Current
F20-23-7-530

Last
F020-16-7-503

Shipped:
F20-13-7-506

So I managed to find another version from an X5 that worked straight away. That too a long time to find..
After doing the coding for my LCI wheel upgrade and the heating, everything work apart from the heating.

When pressing the button (rewired as mentioned in the thread) The button light comes on and off and shows on the dash heating has been activated. There is no heating icon, so assume my old dash doesnt support one.
But sadly no heat on the wheel
I've checked fuse 48 and its there and has not blown.

Is there anything else I can test or try to find why its not heating up?

Great to hear that your SZL finally works.

Have you done any diagnosis of the car? It can be internal faults in the SZL as well as the steering wheel.

Yes its nice to have at least cruise control and nicer stalks

Was going to check the heater element in the wheel, as the wheel itself is not in the best of condition. Is the module on the bottom left? As I think it has lane assist also but not sure where that is connected.
What cable/pins do I measure to see if a signal is passing through?

The signal itself works if there is light in your buttons and they work. Its a classic that your LED turns on and goes off again if there is faults with the heating element or internal faults in the module. Do a diagnosis by ISTA.

The button is a standard f20 one, so not the one from x5. As mentioned above by lukebars you just move the cables around. So that seems normal from his experience.
So do you think the fact its triggering the heating message on the dash, mean the system is working and probably pointing to the actual wheel itself?

I dont have Ista. Have only got Bimmercode & link. Not sure if bimmerutility would be worth getting?

Ok, then I had tried new switch first. If thats not working, diagnosis by ISTA is the next solution. Everything else will just be guessing.

lukebars Did yours just work using the standard f20 switch? Just that the led on the button would not stay on?
