Test drove a Mach-E GT today....

went to actually look a couple Model 3's, but they had a nice looking Mach E GT up front so I took it for a test drive ..it was at a Hyundai dealership actually.

anyways....wow!!!

I was amazed how freaking fast that thing was

unreal 0-60 and it will plant you in your seat harder than 90% of the cars on the road...it is fast af

very nice interior with quality materials with nice panoramic sunroof with good sound system ...handled very well with tight sports car type steering.

If you get a chance, go check one out....I want one now

I mean, what happens when you get tired of the go pedal? What experience are you left with? And why call it a Mustang? The whole thing is disingenuous.

From what I gather, most people who buy these kinds of cars don't get tired of the acceleration, especially if that's all they've known. It's convenient and effortless to utilize that power from a stoplight or freeway onramp for a quick rush, and then back to the speed limit for the rest of the commute. After all, that's what made AMG so exciting - the early AMGs since the 90s were boats, but fast for their time and very fun on highway runs.

Calling it a Mustang I think serves two purposes, (1) it eases into the future when the Mustang coupe switches to BEV, and (2) as with the new Bronco, Ford is "franchising" the Mustang name into a "family" of vehicles with different body styles, much like BMW does with the 3-Series, 5-Series, X-series, Z-series, etc. for the past 40 years or so.

The Mustang arrived as a personal sports coupe based off the 4-door Falcon and was known as a "Secretary's car" when it debuted in 1964. So why not use the Mustang name to generate attention to Ford's new and first dedicated BEV platform.

Ask anyone from the mid 1960's to the early 1970's who properly spec'd the Mustang, Camaro, Charger or Barracuda the same question...

I have a Mustang Mach-E GT Performance. It's primarily my wife's car since for her driving it makes the most sense. Ordered a Tesla but got so delayed we ended up with the Mach-E. It's an incredible car to drive, and it turns heads as much as my 718 GT4 does and more than my G80 M3 does. The 634 lb ft of torque are a lot of fun and it's really tough to find much that will beat it to around 100 mph. The 12K in tax credits certainly help when it comes to price as they are not cheap by any means. Might look into the iX at some point but very happy and the quality, fit & finish for Ford is quite good.

Once you get past the wow of never driving a quick EV before. Start looking into the architecture and drivetrain of various EVs. Ford is building some the least exciting EVs, very primitive tech. Lackluster dc charge curves, no de-coupling front/rear motors, no heat pumps. Current Ford EVs will be the first EVs relegated to graveyard.

pics please!

$12,500 tax credit? wow!!

we get $7,500 in Cali...and that will run out soon

I was very impressed with it and imo it looks way better than the two Tesla SUV models....

they look even better with some better looking wheels, like most cars

I had great luck with my last Ford... 2016 Explorer that had 85,000 flawless miles before I sold it for my Rubicon

I'm sure a good chunk of them would also mention the drama that comes from a roaring V8 and gear shifts, vibrations, etc.

Is an EV heat pump all that effective at temps around freezing? I would think the same principles of operation for home heat pumps are similar to EV use. I've seen where the Mach E loses some 30% range compared to other (heat-pump system EVs), but the article data seemed a bit incongruent regarding correlation. There is not a lot of battery waste heat to recapture.

If the argument for EVs is home charging, does the Mach E really have that much of a disadvantage if time is not a factor while snoozing comfy in one's bed while his EV quietly charges overnight?

New guidance from Treasury for 2023 EV tax credit. MachE classified as a car, so anything priced over $55k threshold will not qualify for $7500 Fed EV tax credit.

The COP of the heat pump will be above 2, probably 2.5 at freezing. That’s still a useful gain.

That wheel/tire combo makes the car for certain, but it can't save the front, and it can't make it a Mustang.
