Bmw f20 replaced broken head unit

Hi there, i have an f20 with the basic cic head unit, it became fubar and started dropping in and out while driving. I bought a new one and replaced it. The time wont set on the new one. I set time and date and go back. Go in again and it has reset itself. What's up here? Do i need to go in and code it somehow? The time in the dash still holds what in set with the old head unit.
