What are the M135i rivals?

After reading reviews about the M135i, I am excited, I know I will wait for the M235i coupe to arrive in the USA.

What are you guys cross shopping with the M135i?

In the USA it would seem Cayman, VW R, and not much else.

Thanks

I was offered an Audi RS3, but it was so loaded with options that it cost 50% more than the M135i. Lucky I waited. Now waiting for the supposedly Aug production car to arrive. In the mean time, got myself a very tidy 996 C4S as a DD.

I was looking at either a used 1M coupe or an E92 M3, but the 1M's are hard to find and the M135 looked like an interesting alternative.

You will love a F21 135i for sure

I have driven some faster cars (F40, Porsche GT3, Jag XJR spec S, Bugatti V) unfortunately they were not mine. I have flown a F111G (Mach 2.3) 'also not mine'

All 'special' in their own way.

The secret is that you enjoy what you are in at the time.

There will always be something faster and more flashy, but not much else will come close for the money and it has a BMW pedigree

The Cayman is a small sports car (more like the Z4), while the M135 is a small family car with a real back seat with enough space for two adults. I don't quite see how they compare.

If you are in the market for a compact family car with RWD, I think there are no competitors in the market for the F20/F21, unless you consider an older 1-series.

I agree.

When it comes to the USA it will be the F22 coupe. (M235i)

I need a car that holds my bike and some luggage on the INSIDE. My bike is very dear to me. I will not consider a cayman or TT for those reasons.

Since I own a 335i coupe/sports/6mt, I would not buy an older 1 that is still here in the USA unchanged.

I read the euro mags, and they like Scirocco R, and GTI. These cars are up for redesign on a new chassis soon. But are fwd. I am on the Golf GTI V11 forum, but I think it would be hard to buy one coming from a 335i.

Looks like the BMW. Mercedes and Audi have nothing in the states to compete.

you will be waiting at least 2yrs before you even see a M235i on our shores.I drive a 135 and am in the same market. The internet reveal for the 2 series coupe is slated in the first half of 2014 .Going by the usual BMW idiotic business module they will release the M versions some 6 months later.

I was wondering about your impressions about the boxster though. Why didn't you try the 6MT?

Thought about a Golf R and GTI before putting down my order for the M135i, but after taking my Sharan (with basically the same engine as the GTI) out for a 5 mins drive, I'm very much reminded why 6 cylinders and RWD still makes the M135i quite unique in its particular segment.

Car is new in the states, and this is the only car slated to drive.

If I'd buy one it would have been a base 6mt.

The car is perfect but not as a daily driver.

After driving the boxster, I realize I am a sports coupe fan, and do not like sitting on the floor as an older person.

Like I said
Bang for bucks (with a pedigree) it is the M135i
Less bang, lot less money (same pedigree) is the 125i M Sport for fun driving (with some close competition on speed) none with RWD

I know the M135i is special in many ways..

What are the reviews of the 125M? In the USA I guess it would be the 228iM coupe. (4 cylinder gas engine). What does adding an M option do to the chassis/handling/steering?

Thanks

Have a look at the Konfigurator on the UK site bmw.co.uk or the German BMW site www. bmw.de. It gives good details about the different packs and options and it helps with some decisions

The M135 has no competition. It is a premium, RWD, subcompact sportshatch in 3 or 5 doors. There is no similar vehicle on the road. I am sorry Audi S3, get lost you glorified jetta.

All the more frustrating that we can't get this gem in the states.
