About to order
I'm about to order my second M135i. I had the first one and now I'm looking to get the LCI model.
I've just read about an M140i. Is this likely to come out soon or will it be a few years away with the next generation 1 Series? My new M135i should arrive around March 2016. |

Rumour has it that the M240i and possibly M140i will be a 2017 car. I have my doubt about M140i given 2017 would be one year from end of life for F20.

Just don't order it with the base stereo.
I have had 10 BMW's and this stereo is just the most appealing piece of c..p. Just replaced the speakers with Focal IFBMW-S,so much better! Should have ordered the HK. The rest of the car is fantastic, almost as good as my E46 M3 that I still regret selling.... |

The N55 seems to be a proven engine - I'm not sure I'd want to be a guinea pig for the B58, even if they turn out to be just teething problems of any new engine.
But I admit that I had thought about whether to wait for the 140/240... |

You realise that the figures of the B58 on 340i is identical to the M135i? So really it won't be a significant improvement if at all. It does have a slightly wider spread of torque but really the M135i isn't lacking in that department.

Most cars are going to be superseded eventually. Use your doubts about buying now or waiting to haggle a little extra off the price of ordering one?

M140i will just need slightly less throttle before it breaks traction.

I seriously considered an LSD more for low speed traction than track heroics. But without chassis tweaks, it'll understeer and I don't like understeer.
Plus all Lotus cars and McLaren cope fine without them. I think the M135i handles well enough; I'd stick mine on different shocks if I was a regular track day hero but ours gets used for long business trips too so needs to remain comfortable. But even standard, it does very well on track. If the weather is awful or snowy, we take our Subaru. |

If you add a Quaife ATB, I don't think you would notice any more understeer than without it. Besides, it allows you to run a stiffer rear swaybar, removing even more understeer.

I would have thought if they were going to change the model designation to 140 they would have held off on the LCI update to slot the b58 in then and change to 140 at the same time. I could see them sticking the B58 in at some stage but leaving the car as a 135. As per a previous post it produces the same output figures anyway so won't be considered a major upgrade to the vehicle. I wouldn't sweat it.

Nothing a 0.001 bar increase in rear tyre pressure can not compensate, I guess... thanks for the theoretical explanation try, but for the person not considering LSD ''because more understeer'', PLEASE...

This was from the biggest installer in the UK. And no, a bit of tyre pressure tweaking wouldn't help.
You're quite an angry little man. Quite amusing. |

I have installed limited slip differentials on most of the cars I have owned, and I have driven then on tracks and autoX before and after. I would say the balance difference is rather negligible. I don't think I would have been able to tell the difference in a double blind test. The difference in handling and traction on the limit is however very easy to notice. I have only had clutch pack differentials. TorSen differentials like Quaife have even less influence on the balance.
I am pretty sure that 99 percent of the people who install an LSD on a RWD car experience less understeer than before, since it makes it so much easier to oversteer. With an open differential, you sometimes end up with lots of understeer when you wanted to go sideways. Tyre pressure tweaking does indeed change the balance of the car. |
