BMW watered down M, let it flow! M1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10 in another five years it will be M1.5 or M1.75 or go to M17 :bar f: Anything to throw one initial on the back of the car and call it an M then jack up price 20-50k. |

I don't know that I care what car gets what engine. Ultimately, I'd probably just buy the one I like best, regardless of what they call it.
Speaking of which, with the M-ence quantity of cars that BMW seem to want to label M-this and M-that, why would anyone even care. It seems, by my reckoning at least, that "M" is more meaningful as James Bond's boss than it is as a label on a BMW car these days.

First off, love how SCOTT26 (aka BMW ///M marketing) has been so cleverly placed into the forums, giving only a little information in the beginning to make everyone revere him as an inside source, never once considering he or she is a member of the BMW marketing team and everyone one of his/her posts are tailored to push things in a single direction....brainwashing one step at a time.
Ok, back on topic: the N20 in the 328i makes the new F30 328i feel more like a e30 or e46 (sorry, did not like the e36 much) than anyone gives it credit for, especially the engine. The F30 feels smaller and more like a go kart then the e9x yet offers more room----really a great car and I truly think the engine is a big part of it. That N20 is a GREAT engine. I really think you guys will love it, even the sound, once the ///M division gets its mits on it......trust me, its like no four-banger you have EVER driven----and that is just the series production version. If you have not driven the 328i, go jump in one. The 335i feels overpowered and clumsy in comparison. But that is just one man's opinion. I understand the skepticism, nothing wrong with it, just really believe many of you 1-series lovers will REALLY love the engine and handling characteristics such a light engine brings once ///M is done with her. We shall see.... Cheers, e46e92

Coming from the current M3, I am looking forward to seeing what //M cooks up for the M2. Whatever engine it is, it will be better than than the current M coupe, and just short of the F80 M3. I don't really care what tools they get to assemble that toolbox, so long as they do.
As for those that complain about brand dilution. Guess what, most people that are not a fan of your brand could give two shits what you drive. To them, a BMW is a BMW. Period. |

A 4 cylinder engine was good enough for the E30 M3.
I have confidence in BMW's ability to make a small performance car with an I4. Technology is better today than it was decades ago, so that should be able to offset the added weight of modern cars. |

There definitely is a market for powerful nimble small cars. There are also fuel efficiency rules in the US that penalize small cars with powerful engines. Smaller cars must achieve better fuel efficiency than larger cars. I would not be surprised if there is no I6 powered two series, except possibly in the early years.

Bye bye BMW
Last M BMW are the E46 M3.
What's BMW doing??? To go to the market fast I would by a Fiat 500... At least spare parts are cheaper.... And to those who drives a BMW just because it's "status", well, by a Mercedes... Porsche "downsize" is what sport car means: less weigh, more power. 4 cylinder turbo??? It will be a BMW or a Subaru??? |
