Change oil ?

Hi

I have a 2016 f20, my got reach the 100k kilometers now and I would like to perform a overall maintenance, one of the things I want to change is the gearbox and differential fluids, however I see posts that say I should not change and other to change plus I know a dude that have a bmw ( not f20 ) with nearly 300k and did never change gearbox or differential fluids.

Honestly I’m lost, that works fine I just want to maintain it to prevent future problems but don’t know what to do

You do not mention which gearbox you have but if you have the 8HP45 then you should change the oil and filter. ZF state the gearbox should be serviced. Who do you trust more? BMW who do not care about the gearbox longevity after the warranty has expired or the manufacturer.

Be aware that the ZF service information guide 'Oil change kit for ZF 8HP automatic transmission' dated 03.2022 has an error in it on page 4, at the bottom it should state '(T > 75 °C)'. The guide's procedure is also slightly different from BMW's procedure but you should follow the ZF guide. Both these items have been confirmed by ZF's technical department.

I do not know what the Getrag or ZF recommendations are for their manual gearboxes but personally I would change the oil as it has a hard life.

I would do them both but the genuine BMW oil for the differential is not cheap.
