I think I just figured it out - from your VIN you can see that your car is equipped with 6NK instead of 6NH. You got lucky! Congrats!

That's the one.....but as rpagianotto said, you are lucky as you car has the 6NK, which features this functionality.

A question - I was trying to pick up the updated iDrive software, as I have a problem with bluetooth on my current mobile phone (HTC 8x).

However, when entering my VIN at bmw.com/update, it says that the update is not available for my car. This is strange, since I have the bluetooth and USB upgrade (6NH?). The bluetooth and USB are retrofitted though, so I don't know if that is an issue (it might explain why the VIN isn't considered ready for upgrading).

Is there some other way to get the update - can I get it from one of you guys, or is it tied to the VIN when downloaded?

I called my dealer, who wasn't even aware of the update possibility - I had to point him to bmw.com/update to explain what I was talking about
