Masi Is Out

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...iXPQ98oPE.html

Masi out and unlapped cars rules to be clarified.

Shame that theyíre taking away the radio broadcast from the public.

Transparency is good. Taking away transparency decreases public trust.

A big step in restoring faith in motor racing. Good to see the right people were chosen...Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas. Getting Blash to return should be viewed as a big plus.

Ehhh, not really sure about this.

Masi made mistakes, a lot of it was influenced by terrible stewards, but you'd expect that from someone who took over so suddenly. His decision to let one of the best seasons of all time end with racing over a safety car was the right decision for the fans and for the sport even if there's a ton of gray area about what happened. Not easy to make a time sensitive decision when Toto and Horner are annoying you the entire time.

Two racers that are tied neck and neck with one in a much faster car on old hard tires and one in a slower car on fresh softs. One lap between two elite drivers and Max proved that he's the superior racer. Couldn't have scripted it better. Even after Max overtook him, the difference between how much faster the MB was over the RB was so ridiculously obvious.

I've got a feeling that we're going to end up with slightly more raceable cars and the restructuring will promote less racing.

Having the 3rd place Ferrari restarting behind the backmarkers (McLaren & Aston Martin) instead of the 2nd place Red Bull was such a bad move by Masi that my faith in F1 was lost...until now.

It's good that Masi is finally gone. He shouldn't be allowed to be the director of anything in the future unless the WWE offers him a position.

If he felt pressure and wanted to end the race under racing conditions, he should've red flagged it. There's just simply no excuse for his actions in Abu Dhabi, it was pure incompetence.

FIA's cred will be rock bottom after this with Ben Sulayem being forced to do this by outside influences, one of them being HAM's ridiculous demand of wanting Masi out or he won't race, total and utter BS.

FIA's cred was rock bottom after Masi manipulated the championship. Seems the people most upset that Masi lost his position are those concerned that Max cannot win another championship without Masi's assistance. IMO, that's a fair assumption since Max wouldn't have won his first title without Masi.

Good, that was a monumental F up. Disregarded the rules for the sake of a last lap thriller knowing one car had a massive advantage of new tires. Disagree with removing radio message to the public though.

The problem is that you're calling out bias while being biased.

You've narrowed down Masi's entire career into the snapshot of the last lap of the last race and completely disregard all the other b/s that happened during the season - most of which hurt Max more than Lewis. Especially Lewis' freebie at Silverstone as he was being humbled.

You've got to look at the whole picture here. Personally, I'm not really upset or happy about it but I think Lewis fans forget the rest of the season. Racing > Politics. I think some of you guys are getting way too excited for what could potentially ruin harder and more skill based racing.

Only a mouth breather would be excited to watch Abu Dhabi end with a safety car.

Cmon, only a mouth breather or Max fan doesnít understand the massive departure from precedent and their own rules was wrong. As has been stated many times, just throw the red flag, allow all cars to be in their right position, clean up the mess and go racing for 4-5 exciting laps instead of one that ruined F1s credibility.

A ton of people wreck very long great careers with one monumentally bad decision. I donít think Masi is bad guy but he royally screwed up and had to go period.

Thanks to that decision, Max will forever have an asterisk by his WDC and it will be talked about endlessly from here on out.

Masi's entire career has been one screw up after another. He has failed to regulate races in a consistent manner which has led to confusion over what can or can't be done.

Your own bias is impacting how you view the season since you cherry-picked Silverstone (an incident that Max contributed to by turning into Lewis) while ignoring several fouls Max committed throughout the season and got away with (Brazil is one).

Every fan would have preferred Abu Dhabi to end under racing conditions, but a race director cannot make decisions to toss out the rulebook in order to make that happen. Fans also wanted a race in Spa, yet all we got was a safety car. We dealt with it because that's what the rules dictated. The integrity of the sport has to come first.

Max/Redbull was losing so badly in Abu Dhabi whether the race ended behind the safety car or not wouldn't have mattered. Max fans would've had to accept that loss because Mercedes and Lewis were simply better that day. Nobody should accept a shady race director changing rules benefitting one team to create some drama for entertainment.

I don't have any big problem with the changes except for duel race directors. Bad idea!!!

They should also have paid full time stewards for consistency.

HAM and MB had a legitimate gripe. But, I still hope for a last race championship battle this year with one catch. The new rules end up costing HAM #8 and gift the championship to another driver. Now that would be awesome!!!

Will teams still be able to directly talk to the race director?

That's also a problem no matter who's in that position.

Thankfully the FIA realized that It was vital that viewer & fan confidence be restored in the policing of F1 races...it had been badly eroded throughout the 2021 season.

Agreed on your first point.

There's really not THAT much bias. I'm a McLaren fan but I acknowledge Max is by far the most natural and most talented driver on the grid.

Partially agree with your third point but this sport hasn't had much integrity for a long time. Senna v Prost 1989?

Max's car 100% could not even touch Lewis' car in Abu Dhabi but Max's aggressive overtake and defense on the last lap speaks volumes when hard racing is allowed.

We're not entirely at disagreement - I don't think Masi is amazing and Abu Dhabi was a garbage situation but Masi's decision was the better decision that day. In a season full of f ups from the stewards and Masi that even allowed Lewis to catch up to Max in points. Ending it with a safety car would have been fair for the Abu Dhabi GP but would have been terrible for racing and the season as a whole.

My main point is that Masi getting the boot might not be as great as you all think given what we've been told so far.

Imagine being a Mercedes/HAM fan, winning the championship 8 times and complaining when someone else wins it. Let's not forget how much of an advantage the Merc car is over everyone else, the year previous they put Russell in it and he almost won if not for the pit crew.

I hope Russell and Hamilton fight each for wins this season, bottas was a good 2nd driver, sacrificing himself so Hamilton can win, but now that he's gone, I hope Russell doesn't become Hamilton's bitch.
