Does anyone have a Peloton?
I bought one 3 months ago. I think I've used it a total of 10 times. The classes are all the same and competing against strangers got old really quickly. I found myself listening to podcasts vs. listening to the music on the speakers.
I honestly think it's the biggest scam out there. Not sure what I was expecting but a $100 used stationary bike is literally the same experience. |

I got echelon instead. It is a REALLY solid bike, surprised how heavy it is. It can be used with apps outside the echelon world if you knwo what you are doing apparently but I don't use it, i don't do stationary bikes, I much prefer a rowing machine.

I convinced my wife to get a Stages bike and opt for their iPad holder. Then she can bounce from app to app and change up the instructors and routines better.
Post the Peloton on CL. I bet someone will bite on it. |

I traded some GoPro cameras I wasn't using for a nice Trek 1.1 and then mounted that on a Wahoo KickR and Ride Inside E-Flex. I have a 46" 4k TV a few feet in front of that powered by an Apple TV 4k version. That has the Fulgaz app installed, so when I ride, I have a choice of Fulgaz videos to watch. Those videos interact with the Wahoo KickR so when the video shows the rider going uphill, the Wahoo trainer makes it more difficult to pedal, and vice versa coming down hills. It also shows power and cadence and my heart rate. All that cost less than half of what a Peloton costs. The Fulgaz subscription is $9/mo. You can watch the videos here:
https://fulgaz.com/fulgaz-rides/ I *think* you can get Fulgaz to work interactively with a Peloton bike, but you may need separate power meter pedals. Google around and see what you can find for getting them to work together. Fulgaz is free for 14 days. I also saw a thread on Reddit where someone was doing the usual Peloton workout, but watching the Fulgaz videos instead of the Peloton instructors.

I paid for a Gold's membership, and didn't see results. I gave it a solid go in the first year but I had zero knowledge on working out, so I didn't get very far. The month I got a personal trainer was the start of results. No cancelling, no meaningless work outs, and saying "I can't" earned me 20 pushups. A professional trainer btw, not some goof-ball from a gym who's looking at their phone during sets instead of you! |

You need to motivate yourself - relying on a machine to motivate you is just setting yourself up for failure.
I have a Peleton and a Tonal. And the combination is excellent. Strength training and cardio on alternate days. But I have to motivate myself to get into that rhythm. I would say the first several days are the toughest because you look for excuses to not work out (I'm tired, I have a headache, I don't have time, etc). But once you push through those first several days you eventually get into a habit where you feel you need to workout or your day isn't complete. When you get to that point, machines like the peleton and tonal are incredible.

I have Peloton's, both the bike and the tread. I use it 3-5x a week and vary the cardio's with my lift workouts. Like wtwo3 said, you need to motivate yourself. What you just said is like you paid for a gym membership but went only a few times.

Similar, but any recommendations for a stationary as well as something we can either put on an iPad or TV? I’ve got my road bike mounted to a trainer in front of a TV in the garage, but I think I’d like to swap over to a stationary so that my wife and I can easily change seat heights and use one machine.
I usually toss YouTube up and watch some garbage, but would be nice to have some guidance of sorts. Not looking to break the bank. |

Peloton is a ripoff. $1500-3000 for a stationary bike is complete madness. I'd rather spend that money towards a nice road bike that you can mount to a smart trainer so you can use it indoors and outside. I have 2 kurt kinetic road machine fluid trainers, one I bought new, the other I picked up used for $75 locally and I added the Kinetic inRide 3 power sensor. It's probably not as accurate as the expensive Wahoo smart trainers but that's not important to me. I've been using Sufferfest (now Wahoo SYSTM) synched with TrainingPeaks and Strava for the last 1-2 years. I wish there was a program I could buy without a monthly fee. I looked into Golden Cheetah, which is free and very powerful with all the metrics it tracks, but it seemed overly complicated and you've got to manually build the training sessions.

I have one and it’s a great unit. Expensive yes but it’s also a premium product ( we don’t want to be making feature to cost comparisons of BMW’s to Kia’s next do we? ).
Up front cost is high. But the services you get monthly are pretty compelling if you have multiple people in the household using it. That and I HSA’d the whole thing so I never paid a dime of my own money for the thing haha. |

My wife and I did spin classes a couple times a week, pre-COVID. Once it became clear the lockdowns we going to go on for a while she bought a stationary exercise bike. Nothing fancy. It was maybe $500. She uses it maybe once every 2 weeks. I hate the thing and never use it. For me, I need an in person class to motivate me.
