Repainted car, how much depreciation?
How much depreciation would you guys say an m3 would incur if it's been repainted ?
Lets say it's a good paint job, original color was white, and it was repainted to black. I'm thinking of buying an e92 that was repainted but otherwise mechanically sound. Thoughts? |

In my opinion, there is "repainted" and then there is "repainted another color." That usually means the paint doesn't match in all the little areas nobody will ever notice... except me. I will obsess over that, and would not buy the car as a result.
Darn OCD. Unless I'm buying it as a cheap beater. But these cars are not in that category. |

How much $ off the price would you factor in for the repainted car? $4k? |

If it's a good repaint and not on any record checking service, then I wouldn't be bothered at all by it. Even so, these cars are getting to the age where repaints are going to happen, so I don't know that it's even a big negotiating point anymore. I'd rather take a mechanically sound car that with a good repaint over a pristine OE paint job with an engine/drivetrain that hasn't been taken care of.

This day and age there would have to be some pretty bad reasons to repaint a car when wraps are as good as they are and would cost far less than a proper paint job. I would guess substantial body work was done and covered up, or they did not pay for a proper paint job (which would require a full trim-off prep, and all door jams, trunk, engine bay, etc be painted).
I would bet Maaco was involved, so unless documentation to the contrary was provided and validated I would pass. "If the deal seems too good to be true, that's because it is"

I sold my e92 a few years ago that had been repainted by the original owner, from Jerez Black to a fun e46 color (it was an excellent paint job, definitely not Maaco). Sold it for just under book value.
