I an looking to fit a roof rack on my F20 and prefer to buy 2nd hand to save $$.

It seems 1 series roof racks are as rare as rocking horse poo but ones for F30 a bit more common

A couple of questions:

1. are the mounting points for the F30 the same as the F20?
2. If mounting points are the same could I use an F30 version and shorten the cross bar to fit? I know they are available on Ebay for the right price but postage is around the $250

According to Thule mounting points are different: different fitting kits are required. But the rest of the pack (the bars and the foot pack/kit) are the same. And by the way, they say BMW OEM roof rack is by Thule too: https://f20.1addicts.com/forums/show...postcount=1494.

I did search but could not find anything definitive. RealOEM shows the whole bar and not just the mounting points but show things like mount protectors as being the same for several different series cars including Series 1 & 3.

I imagine they are the same kits but with shorter or longer bars to suit the model they are used on.

Ill see if I can find a used Series 3 set and try them if possible and then just cut down the bars.

I have Thule bars for E39 & E36 so know they are good products
