Hello all first time posting have a 2014 bmw 116d few months ago car randomly popped out of reverse few months went by now my car is grinding and refusing to go into reverse tried the moving into a different gear then into reverse doesn't work any idea what it could be don't want to fork out for a new gearbox if its a simple less expensive fix got just over 100k on the clock is there anything I can check before commiting to removing gearbox any help would be good thanks.

I think this is probably a gearbox issue (bent fork), but it could also be related to the linkage to the gear lever.

I thought it may be a fork issue as the rest of the gears work I have checked all down the gaitor of shifter and tried manually putting it into gear but it doesn't do anything I have sourced a used gesrbox with less than 20k for a reasonable price so I think it maybe the only option

Alright sorry to revive and older post but what did you end up doing in the end. Have a 114i on 76k and have the exact same symptoms as you.
