Oem exhaust modifications

Hi guys I have an M140i and want to modify the oem exhaust by opening the backbox and either:
1: replacing the perforated pipe with a straight pipe
2. Welding the holes in the perforated pipe

Could anyone advise which is a better method

From what I've seen on opening them I think it would be easier to replace the pipe as welding the holes around the back might be a pain. Saying that welding a new pipe in will have similar challenge although there may be enough space to get the torch around the back. Perhaps sleeving over the pipe would be simpler, ie slit a new pipe then put the seem on the opened side only.

I bought the MPE from Cotswold in the end and was very happy with it.

My m135i is going now and I couldn't get the MPE off. I've a feeling it's the same exhaust, my standard one is kicking around my garage if it's any interest for practise? I'm a fair way, but at least same country I think.

Exhaust flap solution

I took the easy and less noisy way out:
  1. Opened the exhaust valve by using such as Bimmercode/Carly for BMW or putting the car in Sports mode with engine running.
  2. Pulled the plug from the actuator, and installed a BMW dummy actuator plug (BMW OEM Part No, 18302411427) to keep the crap out.
  3. Strapped dummy actuator & wire to under-body with long cable tie.

  4. Installed wiring plug connector terminal 4 pin (BMW OEM Part No. 12527549033) to actuator valve mechanism after sealing with silicon to stop water & crap ingress.

  5. Exhaust flap stays open all the time.
