Car and Driver reports BMW expects 80% of XM production to sell here in the States and in China. My guess is China will buy well over half of those, and the model was designed with that market foremost in mind.

One thing is certain about BMW: it knows how to move iron. And batteries, too, now.

Anytime BMW introduces a vehicle that revolutionary, not evolutionary, there are those long-time BMW fans that will resist. I'm one of those people. Personally, I don't care for the XM looks inside or out.

I got to drive one last year in Napa at the BMW Electrified event. It is very quick, as expected, but other than that initial blast off, the XM was not that special, certainly not $160K worth of special. Personally, I'd take the X5 over the XM any day.

Now, do I think it will sell and be successful? Hell yes. There is a market for the XM. It will sell well, but not in X5 numbers. It doesn't have to at that price point. Bottom line: BMW is really good at selling cars and they get it right most of the time.

The styling is gross, there’s nothing to like about it and the thing cost $160,000. What a mistake by BMW.
"Stop liking what I don't like"

The car was being delivered to a customer, so your theory that it was a mistake by BMW seems shot.

They sold (1) so the theory is shot

But you may be right, in today's "look at me", social media driven society, these cars might actually sell to the ever-growing population of sociopaths in the US.

Your sales guy sounds like a total douchebag.
