F20 LED rear light dimmer

Hello,

I have a F20 non LCI with LED rear light and the one on the right is dimmer.
Now I've searched for solution on repair and say that on the X3 (F25) there are some tutorials in replacing the Valeo board from inside.
I have tried to locate such a thing in my tail light but there are only some wires.
Did anyone had and solved this issue ?

This is the link for the X3

Thanks

F20 LED rear tail light

I have identical model (and colour) M135i with identical tail light issue.
Were you able to resolve this issue yourself?
If so, how was this achieved?
Cheers,
Geoff

Hi everyone,

I have 2012 F20 116i Sport Line and same problem.

The rear light system of 1 series is different from X3. When you remove the headlamp in X3, we can access the Valeo chip. However, in our laminates, the system is completely closed and inaccessible. The only way to get to the motherboard is to remove the window from the rear lamp and detach it from the main unit. In this way, the problem is solved if we can directly connect the LED.

But this method may be troublesome. Because the water from the outside and the air will enter the rear lamps.

There seems to be no choice but to change the rear lamp.

Had the same problem with my wife's 118i.... Was just out maintenance plan when we noticed it. Had to replace complete light out of my own pocket. It is a non replaceable LED driver

Yep I'm in the same boat. Same right rear cluster looks to have been replaced under warranty before I bought it ie. my M135i is a July 2013 build and the right rear is currently a 2015 cluster so the original owner had issues with the same cluster. There is no way to access the circuit board from what I could see in the F20's and I confirmed with BMW Service that the only option is replace the whole cluster unfortunately. Was quoted $440aud as the cheapest they could go so bought a Valeo OE 044643 (rear right p/n) off eBay for $290aud

Had the same problem... got it fixed for 50€.

a led/electrical specialist can open the taillight and repair it... not a simple fix to do at home unfortunately.... (not as easy as the X3 led tail light!)

you have to make your way to the leds melting part of the plastic.. and seal it after the repair.

at least was much cheaper the a oem bmw tail light.
