Just got pulled over....

In my 10+ years of riding motorcycles, I've never been pulled over on a bike until now....for get this...not having my front visor down on my helmet (ie no eye protection). I guess the cop was bored. I got off with a warning.

Details? But would you rather look cool or lose any eye then crash and get seriously hurt?

I do this too when I'm in the city but after many years of riding 4 wheelers with no helmet or eye pro I know what its like to be hit by a small insect (june bugs) while going 40+ mph. I've taken a many of smaller insects, like love bugs, in my eye...doesn't feel good at all.

But what I was getting to was I ride with my visor all the way if I'm going slow, like 20 or less and then lower it to just where it doesn't cover my eyes and if I need to I'll just lower my head a tad to cover my eyes.

You think its a dumb rule until you see why they have it.

Geez, I see people out here riding with no helmet and no glasses all the time. I wonder how they can even see with the wind in their eyes.

To be clear, I know why they have the rule. I don't ride with the visor up at highway speeds or on major roads where the speeds are higher than residential. I was going about 35 on a two lane road in each direction which cuts through some neighborhoods. I wear a full face helmet and ride a sport bike. By default, my head is tilted down a bit when I'm in my normal riding position. As I said, I've ridden this way for over 10 years and never had a problem. I also have my visor up when I exit the pit area at the track I frequent and lower my visor when I enter onto the track. Again, I've never been hit by anything which would cause me to be blinded and crashed.

You would think the cop would realize I'm probably more safety conscious than many riders out there when I'm riding in full leathers, gauntlet style gloves, and track boots (the equipment I use on the track).

Yeah. And if you're famous you don't need to wear a seat belt at all and you won't be ticketed. Just ask Princess Diana.

Was it at least a biker cop that pulled you over? I'd be more pissed if it was some douche in a cop car.

I've been riding for over 10 years and well, R1s and now a ZX10r. I've also been hit in the cheek/chin with my visor up this past summer, first time ever and wasn't too bad but I was almost home and going 15 mph or so. Until you've been hit by something, in your eye, you will never understand how important it is to protect your eyes. I'm sure you've been hit by small rocks that cars/trucks have thrown up, yes? Imagine that hitting your eye or face.

I see why you're mad but honestly its the same as someone complaining they got a ticket for not wearing a seat belt. You might be wearing full leathers but cops will get you anything. Some times they just want to make sure you know what the law is.

Like the douche in a squad car that pulled my and my buddy over because our turn signals weren't the "approved" size for WA....well, you obviously could see we were turning left correct? But he was "just looking out for us fellow riders" as he said.
