I've ran into some fast ones. I've been completely smoked but that's also only about 5% of the time.

Honestly performance wise, nothing. Not sure what was done to it before I bought it but to my knowledge it's bone stock. Not saying my car is the baddest on the streets, what I am saying is that in the area that I live, people would rather spend less money on a car and get the looks versus the performance. I see LOTS of slow stangs and challengers around here that think their cars are the fastest thing on the road because of what they are, not the case and honestly neither is mine, but it's faster than theirs.
Then they were not racing or they were old V6 models.

Careful bud, fortunately you're not driving a white M car. Talk like that would have gotten you in trouble in Seattle...

Pretty much. Any stang worth his salt will give our cars with mods a run for his money.

A modern 5.0 will run a 3 or 4 unless it's been modded, sometimes non M BMW owners forget that stock most of BMWs cars are not really that impressive time wise.

If you're driving an f90 m5 then by all means be cocky but otherwise an American v8 may give you an ego check

Not saying I'm a pro-driver by any stretch but not saying they are either. Case in point, I got smoked by an old Lincoln LS just last week driven by a girl half my age, but the girlfriend and I raced a Nissan 350z (heavily modded) Saturday night and out the 2 races he didn't come close, took him off the line the first go around and second was a rolling start.
Those old Lincoln LS are not to be underestimated. They can look bone stock but that v8 is a monster with the right mods

As a former Lincoln LS owner; not so much. In spite of what many people think it uses a 3.9 liter Jaguar derived V8 instead of the Mustang 4.6 4v so mods are nonexistent. It was a very nice handling car but even my 2nd gen was only good for 280hp and was attached to a pretty dreadful 5at.

Especially 2016 or newer SS, Coyote, or Charger models. 2015 or before are usually toast.

Thread split. Discussion went OT from the original, but seems like it was a popular topic so I gave it its own thread. Enjoy.

It was 20 years ago. We would drive an hour outside of the city to an industrial area. There was no one else on the streets but a bunch of kids in lowered economy cars. We'd watch them do 15sec+ 1/4 miles, smoke Marlboros because that's what grown men do, and looked under hoods and pretended that colored spark plug wires made cars faster until 5-0 showed up and we'd all scramble towards our 120hp rockets to get away. Cheap fiberglass bumpers would get destroyed as we sped off on uneven pavement, fart cans farting, city lights twinkling in the night. My oversized rear view mirror gave me the situational awareness needed to escape, vTec and a 7 second 0-60 gave me the speed, hours of Gran Turismo 1 gave me the skill. My Momo shift knob ensured every shift was precise and quick, the holes in our rear bumpers made us light and agile, I turned the AC off to divert all power to the front wheels where I needed it. We thought it was pretty cool... at the time.

Does turning off the AC help a little bit with the power? I used to do that with my 180hp "sports car". Though that was a lot of horsepower back then

If you want a real go at making muscle cars look slow, invite them to your local auto-x and keep it OFF THE STREETS!

Atlanta just had an entire family killed crossing the street because of douchebags racing. Not fucking cool at all. It fires me up. There are legal outlets for that shit.

Sure does. ACs on all cars will use about 15HP. Give or take a little in either direction. My WRX seemed to lose closer to 20HP. I had to turn if off if I didn't want to drop to a lower gear to pass.

Agreed, lining up and doing a quick straight line pull to 100 on an almost empty freeway late at night is very different from driving like an asshole though city or residential streets.

That other story about 90s racing was great, we used to take our shitboxes out of town and into frame country and race on the empty rural roads. Quite frankly I'm amazed no one died given how bad the roads were and how crap our cars were

I'd say it's closer to 5-6hp.
