So I guess the 95% of your clients running iOS must be a location thing for sure
I love when people quote marketshare. Seems they always forget that Android is not only on premium phones but also on extremely price sensitive phones. Remove those from the count and I think we'll see some new stats. Additionally, marketshare for for "Smartphone Shipment" and does it include the secondary markets.

Lastly, the majority of those Android devices cannot support AA wireless.
Smartphones that run on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher are said to be compatible with Android Auto. However, they are not compatible with Android Auto wireless. For wireless connections, Android phones that run on Oreo OS work best.
MS Windows may lead marketshare but that doesn't make it the best OS. MS customers don't even want to upgrade to the latest OS.

Statistics and charts can be made to say whatever the author wants but doesn't mean it's true.
You just quoted marketshare info, albeit w/o %'s....in any event, no one really cares. Shouldn't be using your mobile whilst driving anyway

I do not know a thing about market share, what I do know is that I have been using Android since the Android Dev Phone running version 1.0 of the software back in 2008 (iirc).

I am currently using a Galaxy S10+ and imho it is the best smartphone that I have used to date and I have used a ton of them.

My gripe with Apple has always been I feel like they are asking a Premium for the Apple experience which is a good experience, I myself have just never felt it is worth the premium.

With all that said,my Galaxy S10+ does not play nicely with my current BMW running iDrive 6.0 and an of course I am frustrated that I am going to have to wait for my next BMW for Android Auto, but that is life.

Within a few minutes renewing it, everything was back up and running.

So yes, believe it or not, all APP and interface like CarPlay does use the in-vehicle data connection, to a degree. How do think it validates if you have a current CarPlay subscription.
The phone mirrors and streams the content, like a mainframe dumb terminal.

My guess is since your subscription expired the car refused to except the stream from the phone. To do what you're saying would require the car to use the Vehicle Mobile Number which you would have to activate w/your carrier as BMW isn't going to pay for that. Not sure how the ConnectedDrive Digital Services communicate w/the mothership but would think it's not using cellular.

I'm telling you it's dependent on the vehicle's internet connection to populate, not operate.

Yes, after it loads and authenticates, your phone takes over for the main function and it uses your phone's data stream but the initial functions is still dependent on the in-vehicle data connection.

I'm not going to go around in circles, if you doubt me, contact Connectdrive customer service and they'll confirm it.
So BMW stick some additional authentication, wonder if that goes away now AC is free...

Though 20 countries is very odd, I can easily count more than 20 countries that have on par or better wireless infrastructure.

I mean entire Western Europe + East Asia is more than that already

There is still a lot of places in the world that doesn't yet support 4G internet service, which is what BMW telematics uses.

I was on well-developed island in the West Indies recently that still only had 3G service available..

I understand your frustration. I have the same feeling about Apple. I do however like their stance on privacy and data protection which makes me reevaluate. Google and Amazon are exposing the users to much more data sharing and mining, which I am not necessarily in agreement with, because it is not 100% transparent to the common user and consumer.

Both OS should be treated the same by the auto manufacturers though, since the consumer makes their own choices.

So this will be a free software update. They ended subscription for Apple Car Play as they were planning to offer android auto and figured folks would not want to pay.

I'd rather go back to a piece of string and red solo cups before using an IPhone.

"sector" is very different than BMW clientele.
Old Navy sells way more than MK, Armani or Ralph Lauren, or Zegna. But you wouldn't expect BMW owners to be interested in Old Navy in most cases.

90+% of people who make more than $120K/year are on iPhone. Also people with managerial jobs, and people with post graduate degrees prefer iPhones more than 70+% of the time.
Based on these numbers, 90+% of BMW buyers would be on iOS, easily.

A string and cup would probably give you a better user experience than your Android.

And at least you wouldn't have to worry about it spontaneously combusting into flames..

Android is the Kia of phones, so they should get a Genesis
J/K aside, just like 90% of BMW owners use iPhones, I'm sure 90% of Kia&Hyundai owners are on Android.

I didn't hear about it being free. I have a 2006 so don't keep up with the details. Just knew about the subscription service for CP which I assumed would continue with AA. Glad to hear they have smartened up.

i've had both and they both do the normal phone stuff fine. i just got irritated having to use itunes, and once i had youtube picture in picture it was a done deal. I can run a youtube podcast or video on my drive home, and answer a text without having to pause.

i think people who nerd out over computers and build their own gravitate toward android

I don't have an iPhone because :

A) I don't support Apple and other companies whose solution to their workers suicides is a net around the building.

B) I like easily developing apps (mostly for my own sake) and Android Studio works on all my machines, and is done in Java.

C) I don't care to have the newest 1000% markup iPhone. How do you think I afford an M2? I don't spend a thousand dollars every year and the same phone they released last year.

D) I refuse to be a sheep.

E) My brand new Pixel 3a is dirt cheap, works on Google Fi (which is also cheap), and has a fantastic camera and phone screening.

The only reason people buy iPhones is because they don't want to seem poor OR all their friends have it and they buy into the hive mentality, aka sheep. Could you IMAGINE walking into work without an iPhone in hand! Great Scott, the looks you would get from your hoity-toity coworkers would surely make you die of shame!

If true, that means 90% of BMW owners are just brand whores who are only driving them as a status symbol. Those same people wearing Lululemon's and go to Starbucks every morning and act like the world is ending everyday. They are clueless people who ironically are less intelligent and less successful and many of their counterparts who don't own Apple phones because those Android owners have been enlightened.

Very true. You call it being a sheep, I call it being a Nazis. Apple propaganda is unbelievably powerful and mesmerizing. It's mind-boggling that half the world's population is under their zombie spell not realizing the s*** that they bought.
