Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. I currently have a 68 plate m140i with entrynav2 and an upgraded 8.8' display. It works fantastic and is 90% like pro nav.

However, i have got the itch for CarPlay and believe it is only possible with a HU that has the wifi port. I have checked and mine does not therefore i presume CarPlay is not able to be coded?

I am wondering, if i were to purchase a HU with the wifi port (Magneti Marelli / Alpine) how simple is it to set up? Plug and play (with some coding)? Also will i retain all of my cars service history that shows in idrive, as well as all the connected drive subscriptions i have? Navigation etc? Basically everything the same?

If anyone is able to give me some more info/costs that would be great!

Here are some pics of my head-unit and one i have seen for sale. Even though mine is MM and the one for sale is Alpine (and from an F30) does it matter?

Cheers, Joe

I am trying to achieve the same thing. I believe you have two options:

a. Upgrade the HU to one with wifi support and use an NBT emulator. Donor service history will show at first, but after paying a visit to your local dealership for maintenance you ll get your history back.

b. Upgrade the HU to one with WiFi support and buy a set of fsc repair codes. Your VIN will be injected and everything will work like before. Then you need to VO code your car in order to enable the CarPlay option and then FDL code it set it to "aktiv". The latter can be done for free if you know what you are doing.

Since you already have an entrynav2 unit I don't believe you will face any issues with the telematics and "connected drive" feature.

Plan B may not possible.

Because the repair kit of your VIN didn't have Carplay fsc 143. entrynav2 only has original fsc.

I ve been reading here and there that many people did the upgrade from ID4 to ID6 and have successfully enabled Carplay and they had to switch from their original HU (entrynav1 most of the times) to an HU Evo (the harman one).

Headunit could be swapped but has to be prepared on bench before putting it to the car.
It will get into Component Protection mode if you fit it without any preparation.
143 FSC is NOT needed for CarPlay activation.

This may be a long shot, but I wonder what my options are for native CarPlay for this NBT_HU with S609 and S6NS (came from a 2015 535i Xdrive F07). It has a wifi port, but likely it's not a WLAN setup.

Replacing NBT_Entry HU from 2012 F30 with no Nav, only S6NH.

There are no native options for this headunit. Either headunit change or Chinese MMI.

If you upgrade from ENTRYNAV to EVO, you have to check first if you have ATM or TCB unit in order to not lose the ConnectedDrive features.

In my case, I have Entrynav and TCB and if I want to upgrade to EVO, I lose the ConnectedDrive because the EVO units require ATM, not TCB. I am looking for a way to get Carplay without upgrading to EVO.

Have you considered one of the 10.25" Android Units?

Quite cheap at the moment, dependant on location and are 99% of the time plug and play. Got one in mine and its been fab!

The only problem with the Android displays that made me go MMI for CarPlay is the mirror like screen. I heard there are some better screens out there now, but far from the absolutely non-reflective BMW display.

Hi All
Just recently got a BMW 1 series 2012, I have got the entrynav 2 but wanted to know whether mine has the Wi-Fi antenna or even the port for it. How can I check this without removing it.

Thanks in advance

Enter the vin into bimmer.work website for a list of the specs/options.

Also enter the last 7 digits of the vin into realoem.com/bmw and then you can see what parts were fitted or optional.

I doubt a 2012 entry nav HU will ever work.

My 2014 116i with BMW professional radio had no upgrade options so I changed the screen for a 10.25" Chinese Android unit.
