8HP50 fixing low rpm at 40-80km/h speed?

120i engine has bad power/torque delivery in 1k-1.5k rpm range (single turbe with lag). Torque comes suddenly at ~1.75k rpm.
The problem is at normal driving mode with stock (stage 1 makes it even worse):
Speed between 40-80km/h, going uphill at 1.5k rpm and with gentle accelerator push you expect the car to keep raising rpm or do 1 shift down. Right? Wrong. At those speeds, ZF does upshifts where you get stupid rpm in 950-1200rpm range, uphill and engine struggles badly... Then naturally you push kickdown and here comes torque, when you don't need it anymore (just wanted stable 1.5k+ rpm).
Somehow driving with cruise control, car understands to keep rpm or do incremental downshifts. Driving with padal - no. 0-40km/h and 80+km/h - all good, behaves just like expected.

Is it standard behaviour? How can it be fixed?
