I have driven many cars with front wheel drive, no one has been a fun ride. I hate front wheel drive.

The entire range of A's engines is under BMW's in terms of performance

Well considering the 1er is RWD and the MB is FWD I would say its already "kicked" it. And thats not even getting into the engines. That would make it a slaughter.

I saw it in Dubai (up close) and actually sat in it. Not bad, but aimed at the A3 more than the 1er.

It is only a four and front wheel drive. When there make it into a proper RWD unit then it will be a real contender. AWD maybe ok but I think it will won't have the driving dynamics of the 1er

Yes it is modern, but the interiors quality of finish is not up to merc standards. The Ipod likealike screen should have been replaced with a docking port for an Ipad then it would be interesting.

The people who say the lights on the 1er are too big should take a look at that grill, it is hideous, looks cheap and is far too big for the car. Styling is a mini CLS only NOT.

The thing is this; Yes, it is the best looking Merc A Class for sure and it will take sales away from Audi / VW first. BMW should be concerned about the inclusions offered by Merc for the money (lots of the extras on BMW are included on the Merc).

My gripe is, If you buy an A class you get a Renalt derived petrol engine or a Peugeot derived Diesel. Merc have not developed their own as yet. With Global sharing where will it end up.

I'll take the BMW engine 'thanks'
