I just ordered Adobe CS5!

Won't see it until June, but I can't wait to start playing with it! The new 5D MkII is amazing, and I really want to try some HDR stuff.

I got mine this morning. Apparently HDR tonal mapping in CS5 crashes. At least it did for me. It does have some lens correction tools which is nice. Those seemed to work out just fine.

I just ordered the suite off of apples site, and it says there's a delivery date of June. No idea why.

Can't wait. Hopefully campus stores has a good deal on it like they had with CS3 and CS4.

I think the retail box ships end of May. I hate having CDs around so I always buy electronic.

You can download and use the 30 day trial now. It's full featured. When you get your retail box + serial number, you can just register the trial. It's the same thing.

Really? I tried it on many images and it's not much better than the healing brush was in CS4. I'd love to see a before/after of a successful clone using that feature.

I knew it wasn't going to be the magical voodoo Adobe claimed it to be. It needs to be an extremely irregular texture in the bg to not be noticeable. Software can't make stuff up for you. In the end it needs to be pulling data from somewhere and the software just isn't smart enough to know what the bg is supposed to look like. It's getting better and better, but definitely not as good as they make it out to be. Try the demo yourself. You can install it alongside CS4. There's no conflict between them.

These pics are total crap and only chosen because they have three simple objects for demonstration . I tried to keep the vase, pot, and trough thing in the picture while clipping out the spaces between them.

Original:

Scaled: (ignore the extra white space, my error.

So, it's not perfect. The effect is noticeable when comparing the two side by side, especially in the shadow in the left of the image. In my opinion, the scaled image is still usable, and the scaling took less than 30 seconds to do. With better technique, I believe it'll be a useful tool. Certainly not voodoo magic, though.

Ditto. I'm expecting it to run about $175-$200. Have to play with the trial version first, though. Sounds like it may not even be worth that much. I'm pretty happy with CS4.

I wouldn't be surprised if using the software didn't get you paid. I'll admit I used to acquire Adobe software by other means when I was in school. But when you make a living using this software, it's much easier to just buy it so you can get the support you need and not deal with worrying that you have a pirated copy. It's all tax deductible as well.

i've never gotten paid for editing, and i don't consider myself 'good' enough to get paid for the work i do. i just mess around with the software more than anything. for the most part, all the processing i do is for my own enjoyment on my own images
