M Performance Brake System (18") for F20/21 same as F30?
Guys, after some help / confirmation if possible...
I've ordered an M135i, scheduled for July build....can't wait to get it! I want to get the M Performance Brakes. After searching the net, forums, looking at realoem.com and looking at BMW websites I'm pretty sure I've confirmed which M Performance parts I need to do the M Performance Brake upgrade. So, the following is what I believe i need to buy: FRONT BRAKES Part No 34 11 2 221 445 Description: BMW M Performance 18” Brake System – Red What's Included: - 2 x front 4 piston aluminium callipers in red with M logo - 2 x front 370 x 30mm drilled and grooved discs - 2 x rear 2 piston aluminium callipers in red with M logo REAR BRAKES Part No: 34 20 6 797 598 Description: BMW M Performance Rear Discs What's Included: - 2 x rear 345 x 24mm drilled and grooved discs I want to buy the parts from the States because, like pretty much everything, its a lot cheaper (about half...), the dealer has said they will fit before delivery. From what I've discovered: - The brake set for the front (Part # 34 11 2 221 445) is used for a number of cars, including the F30 BMW 328i and 335i and the F20/21 BMW M35i - The rear disks (Part # 34 20 6 797 598) is used on the F30 BMW 320i and the F20/21 BMW M35i (a different rear disc set (Part # 34 20 6 797 600) is used on the 328i and 335i) Now, can anyone confirm (even more for me) that the front M Performance Brake System (18") is the same for the F20 1 Series as it is for the F30 3 Series? And that the rear disks are the same for the F20 1 Series and F30 320i? Everywhere I have been able to look as confirmed this but hoping someone may have some personal experience... Has anyone fitted the M Performance Brakes to their F20/21 1 Series? Keen to see pics possible! And also if they noticed much improvement in braking performance.. Sorry, that was a long one, but any help / insight would be appreciated. James |

Pics here: (not mine)
http://f20.1addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=211 I guess that, as the size of the M performance doesn't differ much from the M sport brakes (18 inch wheels required, instead of 17 inch), the difference in braking won't be huge. You should have better thermal/fading resistance on circuit though. And they have the looks I'm also interested in getting them. I have no other answers for you though... Iirc, the difference is only the groove/slotted pattern on the rotor disc. Size n piston is the same. Stock brake M135 is very good..
Unless your M135 does not comes with the Blue brakes, I suggest you not to change it... |

I think the performance brake rotors are made of a different material. The main benefit is that they are lighter than the regular ones. Less unsprung weight has a lot of advantages, like better grip, better comfort, and quicker acceleration...
That being said, our 116i has the small basic brakes, and they are also very impressive, even for track use. |

I'm not sure what precisely is being asked here, but the rotors on the front of the M135i is only 345mm isn't it? So doesn't that tell us it's a different brake?

From BMW website:
BMW M Performance 18'' brakes The champion in deceleration: Braking system for improved thermal resilience, even with an extremely sporty driving style. Cross-drilled and grooved, the internally ventilated lightweight sport brake discs prevent a film of water building up between the brake pad and disc and add to the motorsport look. • 4-piston aluminium fixed callipers on the front axle, lightweight sport brake discs with riveted aluminium drum in 370 x 30 mm (diameter x thickness) • 2-piston aluminium fixed callipers on the rear axle, lightweight sport brake discs with riveted aluminium drum in 345 x 24 mm (diameter x thickness) • can be painted in M Performance red, M Performance yellow or M Performance orange, as desired, and includes a coloured M logo • at least 1 inch larger than the standard braking system |

The 18" M Brakes come standard on M135i
From what I can find out, the blue calipers are the same as the M performance only the pads are different to suit the lite rotors. You can buy steel cross drilled and grooved/slotted rotors that will fit the M Brakes from brake specialists and online stores. Save yourself the big cost on the calipers and just buy the rotors to get the look |

Same at the rear as well, unless you have 328i, 330d, 335i. Then you need a different partnr. On my F20 120d with orange calippers I used this nr. Front: 34 11 2 221 447 calipper front and rear and 2 disks front Rear: 34 20 6 797 598 2 disks rear. Regarding M135i. Not the same calippers. |

No.
I think the M sport brakes (as standard on the M135i, and optional on every other 1-series) are 17". In the BMW configurator, you can spec M sport brakes on any 1-series if you have the M-sport package with 17" wheels selected. The M performance brakes are 18" and state you specifically require 18" rims to be able to fit them. |

Its possible to fit 17" wheels on the M135i. On my 120d it just impossible with anything less than 18". I think it is safe to say that the M Performance brakes are bigger than the stock M135i brakes. |

From BMW website (http://www.m-power.com/_open/b/varli...lang=en&x=2807 )
quote: 'The 17" sports brake is installed in the car (M135i) as standard.' The M performance brakes are 18 inch, and thus 1 inch larger than the standard M sport brakes on the M135i. Also confirmed in real life test by ALPINAB12COUPE57 in the above post Last edited by hwelvaar; 05-13-2013 at 07:54 AM.. |
