Agreed! With all of the technical advances and engineering around here!

I am reading some complaints about how this was exaggerated. REALLY???

I can just hear all of the bitching and complaining and whining of how nobody, especially President Obama, warned us of this impending devastation. So those people should really STFU and be thankful and grateful that agencies DID and continue to warn residents to get out or prepare for the worst.
There is nothing more irritating than "ungrateful complainers".

Family from out of the area were asking why we weren't evacuating because they saw on the news the FL, NC, GA was evacuating. No one bothered to clear up that it was mostly only those in the flood zones along the coast that was evacuating. Perhaps that was the only reason people actually reacted, I guess if they didn't exaggerate no one would have prepared as much as they did. But then again it is my first Hurricane so what do I know. I had plenty of food, all i needed to do was buy some extra water and add gas to my car.

I did agree with all the Hurricane Warning being issued in all the Counties that got it. Schools got closed and some business reacted well.

I think the retail stores made out like bandits, people were panicking and bought up everything in sight. Profits should definitely be up this month.

I wonder how many people will try to return generators this weekend.
I've endured hurricanes since 2000 on east coast fl.

We got real lucky! Had the eye wall moved in 50 miles west.... would be a completely different scenario today. During the night the system tracked a little east and forward direction became more north of west. Basically straddling a knife edge last 24hrs.

Early warnings issued were on par with potential outcome.

Hurricane Nicole.... much further east and potentially blocked from moving west due to looping of Matthew.

Storm surges over 9-12' is CRAY. It's only a 3 right now so something sucked the power out of it

Being so close to shore, ground friction (trees, land, structures) interfere with internal dynamics. Energy bleeds off vs being on open ocean or going over small islands.

Luckily nothing happened here in Boynton. We got more rain last weekend that we did with this hurricane. Luckily it seemed to have gone further east while passing our area which seems to have saved us from the more nasty stuff.

Matthew's angle of attack spared south fl. S. Fl was clipped by west/NW edge which is much weaker than the NE quadrant. Also, as Andrew as a comparison, which was perpendicular to coast.

My sister in Orlando (east side) said they never lost power and there's no damage to speak of. Just a lot of rain. Good deal.

This was another lucky pass for FL. The east coast north of west palm is full of old structures. There would have been some catastrophic damage had this storm been just 40 miles more west in its travels.

I really don't get those of you stating the storm was over-hyped. Residents of eastern Florida were lucky the storm skirted the coast otherwise the damage would have likely been much worse. Just imagine if the authorities did not stress the danger of the storm by ordering evacuations and instead it makes landfall with a large population being caught in its wake. If that had happened, local governments would be catching hell for being ill-prepared and not warning the public.

Same here. Ever since I learned to drive, I've hated not being the driver. And once I started flying left seat in the OH-58, even though I wasn't the pilot, I've hated not being in the cockpit. Knowing what's going on sure beats not knowing WTF is going on.

If you had a job on board you would be alright, you have to trust people in certain jobs.... That's how shared moments of death experience creates a brotherhood, you learn to trust guys around you and if you fail your job then everyone fails.

Looks like Jax/ St Auggie took a beating. Had the eyewall of Hurricane Matthew been 30-40 miles west when it passed Melbourne area.... we would have looked very similiar/worse.

Post Matthew in Satellite beach.....

Yep They would be the same folks quickly blaming the President for ALL of their woes and troubles.
Be thankful that the impact wasn't as bad as it certainly could have been. And that we have the methods to warn us in advance to prepare. The last thing we need was another Katrina disaster...
