20 year old me loves it but couldn't afford it. 35 year old me can afford it but probably shouldn't buy it lol. I'm glad BMW has finally made something fun in the hot hatch market. Besides the fake M badge on the back that we know isn't going anywhere anytime soon... I like it!

True enough. However, much of the criticism being expressed - including complaints about the drive wheels and the large grill - will also apply to its three-box twin, the F44 2 Series Gran Coupe. And that vehicle will be sold here starting early next year (debuts this November in LA).
Not that I’m advocating prejudgment, mind you, but I think some of the concerns being shared are valid. While I fully understand the business decisions that lead to this new breed of FAAR-based small BMW models, I still think it is a shame that BMW’s lack of foresight has prevented them from building a proper small EV lineup on the i3’s platform. |

Pretty sure BMW will end up releasing a 400ps M1 as well to battle the A45 and RS3. Yes, BMW M said no 4 cylinder hardcore M models... But times are changing, the paradigm is shifting, downsizing is inevitable, engines will be losing cylinders all across the board until full electrification takes over, while demand for premium hot hatches won't be running out and BMW can't afford to leave Audi and Mercedes the whole cake for philosophical reasons.
The next M2 will remain RWD so who knows, technically it might keep its 6 cylinders. Last edited by advantage20; 05-29-2019 at 11:25 AM.. |

A better direction at this point might be to plan for a high performance version of whatever small BEV lineup is inevitably being developed for the later half of next decade. Quote:

The wheel gap makes the car look like an CUV. Needs to be lowered an inch at the very least if not more. Looks a little boy racer but that's typically the demographic that is purchasing entry level cars. My biggest take is just how bad forged CF looks once implemented on mirror housings and diffusers. I really hope that BMW doesn't incorporate this into future M2, M3/M4, etc as it looks like marble which is fine for a counter top but not on a performance car.

Obviously M products from eras gone by had unique engines, but that ship sailed long ago. If BMW could spare the money right now to bring a proper 1M, M2 GC, X1/X2 M, to market to answer the RS3 Sportback, RS3 Sedan, Q3 RS, A45, CLA45, and GLA45 they would not hesitate to do so. Quote:
