I have been using spacers for year without any problems, and some Porsches are deliverd with spacers from the factory. Make sure they are either very thin (3 mm max) or hubcentric, so the wheel is centered on the hub, and not the bolts. Also make sure you get longer lug bolts.

These are mine. I've gone for the Steel Wheels & Trims this time around. In the flesh they don't look quite as bad as I was expecting!
The Goodyear Ultragrip 8's are doing well so far in this cold weather and certainly have the same amount of grip as the Blizzaks I was running on the 3 series for the past few winters. |

The guy will order 10mm specific BMW spacer with hub centering shape and longer bolt (he will also try longer lock bolts). The bad news is that I have to wait for 1 more week. The good news is that I will get that for free ... |

Finally did not go for the spacer but pushed for reduced offset rim to ET40.
Here is the result. There is not much room remaining between m sport brake caliper in radial direction on the rear (about 4-5mm in radius)... |

This particularly true on highway when driving on seal band, sounds like there is no damping. Perhaps the guy put too high pressure (2.7 bars), will perhaps reduce it a bit... |

On my M135i, I've gone for these 18" 385-style winter alloys (with Pirelli Sotto Zero runflats) which are one of the official BMW sets. More expensive than the 17" options but I think worth the extra money - I think it looks underwheeled on 17"s. Have to say I was not totally sold on the grey wheels when I first got the car but now, having seen the silver finish, I find myself preferring the grey finish:
Another one with my other black BMW!:

That is indeed very fun. Feels like you are tearing up the road when you're barely doing 50!

£1216. Should have been £1280, i tried multiple dealers but that was the best i could get them down to.
The tyres are superb though, i was the only person to make it to work last Friday when we had very bad ice around North Yorkshire.

I've got the A3:s, and they're good for water, slush and snow. They have problems with ice though, so you need to be a bit careful under those conditions.
Also, they handle cornering and braking nicely, but they leave a bit to be desired in finding traction to accelerate. |
