I think it's pretty much unanimous, the front is butt ugly but the rest is good to great depending on the person. I don't get it; I would have up to this point taken any BMW over Audi & Mercedes, until now because of that front end. Could it be it just looks bad in pictures & in person it looks great? I’m still stunned!

The whole time im reading the comments to this thread I was getting more and more pissed at how ugly it is. Furthermore, the guy who said stop jumping on the ban wagon, get off the heroin and really look at the new one series. tell me in which way aside from interior is the new model a step up? but I digress.... as I get ready to write this very response I instantly broke out in laughter with this thought:
"Now the one series owners will know their place" - It was going too good for you guys with that 1M action. Can you imagine what the next gen 1M will look like? ROFLOL the boys at M really have their job cut out for them. This is a true disaster, but Im glad its happened to the 1 series and now the spell has been lifted from the X3, and the new 1 series takes on its title as the most repulsive BMW on the line. You guys at BMW are fucking up big time, the only thing that saved you was the fact that both competing cars are identical and of equal shit quality, which justifies the purchase of the new one series. I still say its the best amongst its competitors, but the A3 has the sharp looks that the 1 doesnt. The old 1 was very sharp with hard lines, but this car got bloated like a fish. Fuck up after fuck up, BMW? No Evo E90, no next gen M3 sedan, you guys are making it harder as the days go by to keep the company's image in tact. So go ahead, keep spitting out bullshit, and soon enough, your CPO'd sales will surpass your new car sales. Once again, youve been warned.

I can't believe BMW approved and is ready to produce this piece of shit. It's one of the ugliest cars ever. It's gonna be a financial and sales disaster, mark my words. Who on earth thinks this looks good? Who designed this shit? Own goal BMW, just watch Audi and MB run away with the sales, this thing is horrifying.

The really sad thing for BMW is that this is the old model A3 it's getting compared to and failing to excite, when the new A3 arrives BMW are going to have to hope that Audi haven't upped their game with regards to driving dynamics because on looks it will simply blow this thing out of the water.

Audi A3 is what made me want to get a hatchback. It was that much good looking.
Golf is what made me want to get any VW brand. It was that much inspiring. F20 1 Series is what made me throw the F up. It is that much disgusting.

BMW 3 series is the benchmark. Price, performance, comfort, looks, technology, everything combined (overall package) 3 series is #1 in the market segment it belongs to. 1 series didn't establish enough reputation to be a benchmark. 1M on the other hand, in my opinion, is a benchmark in its class. The class 5 series belongs in is a toss up between Mercedes E class / Audi A6 while the market segment that belongs to 7 series is taken by Mercedes. Z4 loses to competition sometimes, even to japanese contenders.

You can extend this debate to not just the A3 vs 1er vs Golf but the present/future design language of each brand and where their style looks to be heading.
BMW: I honestly thought with the X5, 5er and X3 that BMW had finally come good but this 1er makes me question that early optimism. Audi: They have always been nice and stylist but the newest design bar the A8 are all looking really well with their striking headlight design. They look to be on a roll at the moment. VW: Understated as ever but with each newer version they gain a touch of perceived quality which can only benefit in the long run. |
