What's insurance like for a sub-25yr old on an M135i?

Also have a new Range Rover. Cars in Oz are ridiculously expensive....my M135i came to 90k with options....and my Range Rover was north of 130k....it's ridiculous what we have to pay for cars where most of the world pays half what we pay... |

Some clown crashed into me on a roundabout years ago and we decided there and then we'd sort our own damage out rather than claiming. Then I came to renew and my insurer told me the passenger claimed for whiplash and I couldnt appeal it nor did I recieve any notification from my insurer at the time. I'm sure that amount will be subject to change once I actually phone up, nothing you ever get quoted online is the exact figure you pay tbh. |

What do you mean by the last bit? Do you mean the salesman was all pally with you when he knew you were spending, but then once you'd made purchase and you called back in they weren't very helpful?

Mt Tamborine through to Boonah is a pretty good run and some of the roads behind Kenilworth on the sunshine coast aren't bad either. It is difficult to find any good bit of road without a speed camera on it now. |

I dont know for sure, but I find anyone under 27-28 VERY young for such a powerfull car.
I'm 28 myself now and been driving for 10 years now. I got to say, honestly, I used to drive like a maniac at times.. Luckily I drove a VW Vento with only 65 hp and later a Volvo V40 with only 90 Hp.. If I would have had a car like the M135 at that time, I'm sure I would have wrecked it and possibly even killed myself.. I find that I'm learning more about driving every day and my skills get better as time goes on, and thats while doing +50.000 Km a year. So I find that the cars you drive in your lifetime should increase in power steadily. I can see myself driving a 320Hp car in maybe 5-10 years. But what's to be of these sub 25- year olds who already drive it now..?? Just my thoughts on things, please drive carefull you guys, for yourselves, your passengers and other road users! Thats all I can say....

My first six cars had 46, 70, 97, 113, 136 and 170 hp, so I had a nice ramp up. Some of my friends had a lot more powerful cars, but I think that made them think differently. The power taught them more respect for high speed and full throttle, which I didn't learn until later. With my cars, I was driving flat out quite a lot. That said, I sold my 170 hp car to a young guy, and it didn't take him long to wreck it. |

Wow, I am an old man on this forum, I am almost 38.
I have been through Civic 6th and 8th gen Civics. Similarly aged Honda Integra GSR, two happy months with S2000, Honda Prelude. E30 325i, and a TOYOTA Camry when I pretended to be a good dad for couple years. Not to mention some diesel trucks I drive for side jobs earlier on. I think it is a privilege to be driving car of this caliber. The torque comes out so early. I love the VTEC engines, but they also require you to be above about 4500 ~ 5500 rpm all the time (incidentally about where the max. torque band ends on M135i) To go anywhere in the mountains it's always down to 2nd gear for turns really. Well that experience let us practice keeping the rev its band and heel-and-toeing often. (in the Civic it's all the time ) Most BMW you can "slide" with 3rd. Media focuses so much on 0-100 km/h times or other times, but there are also other things media can't tell people. The chassis on this thing (though I prefer old E30 w/ KONI yellow setup) is very good, the driving position is phenomenal, the steering is quick making the car so willingly darts into corners. I certainly do not have the capability to describe the kinematics of the car inside the limit, or just beyond it. It's a good car through its range, having personally driven the 116i, 118i, and the 120D (briefly). Cheers~ |

Apart from that I have always driven fast cars from various family-members, and never abused their confidence. I was taught to drive in a Golf V GTI. In the first week I had my driving license I did a 500km drive in various passes in Switzerland with a Audi RS6 and a couple of times a year since I turned 18 I drive a 930 Turbo. When I was 19 I was trusted for 3 months with a C32 AMG (354hp) which I even drove in the snow with completely worn off summer tyres. It's all a matter of being responsible and knowing your own limits. IMO it is very useful to do several driving courses (f.eg. slip-courses, car control-lessons,...) to learn where the boundaries are. Not everyone has this self-discipline, but maybe more than one would expect. Actually, to be honest, most people my age I know that own powerful cars have a much better track-record than the ones who drive underpowered cars... |

I'm surprised by the somewhat young age of many m135 drivers, everyone won the lottery? bankrobbers? Although the m135 is fantastic bang for the buck, it's still alot of money and the insurance-cost must be insane for a sub 25 year old?! When I was under 25 even a stock 325/525 or anything somewhat powerful was out of the question due to insurance-cost beeing like a hundred times more than a 318/520 or similar. Something similar to a m135 would mean I'd have to live under a bridge, eat noodles (at best), spend 100% on the car/insureance and barely make it anyways perhaps things have changed these days?! I should go check out what the cost would be for a m135 just for fun now that I'm getting closer to 30
