no, one can actually get a better mileage with the 125i than I do, but then you really have to drive extremely disciplined. I think I could manage 8,5 perhaps. I drive +- 70% on the highway. I suspect that the automatic gearbox is the cause of the lower consumption figures the M 135i owners manage to get. |

For a 125i that's still a reasonable consumption (for spirited driving), but I'm still puzzled how can a 3.0l petrol engine with that kind of power have that kind of consumption.

116d 6 speed, bought about 2 months ago with about 6000 km.
I can get about 6.5l in the city in stop and go traffic with a/c I usually get about 5l on the motorway at 130 km/h, but usually no worse than 5.5l if driven pretty hard at 160 kmh + Also, coming from a Honda Civic with 1.8 i-VTEC 140 hp, 116d does not feel underpowered at all. I opted for the 116d because it was in stock, but really wanted a 118d. |

Average since new (calculated accurately brim to brim) is 78.2 mpg over 29,000 miles.
Maximum achieved from one tank is 83.9 mpg. Maximum achieved from one trip to work (63 miles from Cambridge to London) is 108 mpg (I had to switch to L/100km to work this out, as the imperial stopped at 99mpg). F20 1.6 ED. Before anyone flames me, I drive it like a nun (about 50 mph behind a lorry). |

Amazing numbers! So you basically have better fuel economy than stated by the manufacturer. Have you ever pushed the throttle to the max in your life? Or is that a sin since you drive like a nun? |

I have a Mk1 GTi to thrash about, and a Volvo V70 for hurtling the family up and down the motorway. My BMW is only used for commuting up and down the M11 into London. I drive at between 50 - 56 mph (depending on how fast the lorry in front is going). I don't tailgate the lorry, I use it as a pace setter. I have covered 30k miles now in a year and a half, and the 78.2mpg has been calculated from brim to brim fillups. I have recalibrated the trip computer (easily done through the hidden menu) as it was highly optimistic (about 6%). My previous car (an Audi A3 2.0 TDi) I owned from new, and only managed 62.3 mpg over 185k miles, and was giving around 65-67 mpg per tank just before I sold it. The BMW is a great car for economy (I know it is the ultimate driving machine, but I have more fun driving my MK1 fast, without power steering or properly servod brakes). Each to their own |
