No Major issues
I have had my F20 118i for a few months now (4500km).
Nothing to mention except the driver's seat click all the time when making turns. Will have the dealer check it out when i go in for my 1st service. |

8 months into I hear metal clicking sounds when I turn slowly but sharply. I took it to the dealer and they say it's the nature of cars made out of aluminum.... A bit of weird explanation to me but yeah but just FYI....

Mine is 3 days old. So far perfect but, naturally, time will tell. I did think I was computer savvy but it feels like flying the starship Enterprise with the myriad of options and functions.
By the way, is there any way of dimming the center dash computer screen for night driving? A bit distracting for me. Richard Southampton |

The dashboard dimmer os down on the right-hand side near the headlamp switch. Bear in mind it dims all the buttons and swithces, the iDrive screen and the instrument panel at the same time, as well as the ambient lighting. The ambient lighting can also be controlled separately via the iDrive menus once you have the dash lighting how you like it.

Are you talking about Nav? My nav goes into a night time mode as soon as the headlights come on when it gets darker outside

About 1 minute after starting the car, very cold air comes from the vents.. Even if it's 30°C outside, it's freezing cold. I drive 99% of the time with A/C turned OFF, but I'm convinced the cold air is cooled by the A/C.. After a good minute, all goes back to normal. A few minutes later, everything starts over again. When driving in rainy days, the fog on the windscreen suddenly disappears every few minutes.. All vents are open and center vent temp is on "neutral". Besides that, I had following problems:

dealers never change - any lie to get out of trouble!! next time you are with your dealer and he tries to tell you it's made out of aluminium take a magnet to your *steel* F20's bodywork and have him explain how it sticks!

Gremlin Playing with my AC~~~~
Yup had that AC problem for a long time, it at times blow cold air for no reason. A while later things return to "normal," and the air blown out is hotter than outside (ambient 30, car set at 25, no AC just fan, 80 km/h, window partially down). Some other guy here has it too. Dealer here said they'll keep monitoring the problem, and naturally they just forget about it

Aplogies for late response.
Thanks Ronnyjoz, I did find the dimmer okay but thought that with all the technology in the car, I would have expected the dash computer screen to dim as soon as the headlights are in use for night time driving. kook, No NAV so don't have that facility. Guess I'll have to use the iDrive menu to adjust screen brightness every time I drive at night. Seems a bit backward to me though. Richard Southampton |

I went into my local dealer for an un-scheduled oil/filter change last week, and upon driving away, noticed that no sound was coming through my stereo speakers at all. To add to this issue, I noticed a distinctive lack of growl from the exhaust sound, especially in Sports mode. Obviously something had happened at the dealership to cause this. A 30 minute inspection from one of the technicians could not pinpoint the fault and they me asked to bring it in for a full day's investigation.
With some research on the sound symposer that night, I informed the dealership the next day that it may be the cause of the fault and they confirmed this later in the day. The result now is that I have to wait a week for the part to be shipped in and fitted under warranty. I am at a loss to see how this component was compromised during the service in the first place. Thoughts? |

Yesterday my car broke down real good.
I was cruising on the highway at about 90 mph. Suddenly the car totally lost drive, all gears stopped working. I was a dead sailor and fortunatly was able to roll off the highway. When I stopped I tried restarting, in hope there was a software issue. Unfortunatly the starter also had broken down, therefore a was not even a sailor anymore - just dead. The shop just had the car on a lift, opened up the gearbox - out came a lot of loose parts. Will be interesting to see what has happened. It's a 120d Automatic with complete M-performance kit, including engine optimisation and gearbox re-tune.

The only issues I have so far (car since April, 18.000km) is that sometimes when I start the car, only the front part of my hifi-system works. I have the Harman Kardon option.
No bass, no rear speakers. Haven't pinpointed which speakers in the front produce sound. Also, the cracking of the front seat. That's about it Oh yeah, I find the automatic rain sensor horrible. At different sensitivity levels, it acts the almost the same. With the same amount if rain it either goes super fast or too slow. |

Worst system ever...and worst extra. Do not throw your money on this thing...it is horendous!! Had the same problem with my Mini and Z4, but I thought that after so many years, BMW would have manage to make it work as intended...but no.
