Flippers, eye goggles and hand float buoy for an easy crossing and back, you can also rest up along the way with minimum effort.

It was on August 7 at Hockenheim, he clipped the back of Prost's slower Renault in heavy rain with thick spray launching his Ferrari at 280 kph. Frenchman Pironi was too eager to seal the championship going far too fast for the conditions and was lucky to live with the poor energy absorbing monocoque landing heavily. In a black year for Ferrari his teammate Villeneuve under pressure from an argumentative Pironi was killed a few months earlier at Zolder in a similar accident where he was thrown out of his car on an impact with Mass's slower car making a split second wrong decision.
Pironi himself was tragically killed with others 5 years later when the powerboat he was in flipped from a tanker's wash off Southampton.

Merc seems to contest with impunity with the current 'change at anytime' FIA rules , though they have slowed now with preserving PU longevity and BOP rules? kicking in and screwing George.
I'm not that bad a swimmer up and down the public pool but in the sea or on your lake it would be on with my light gear for safety and no real panic should cramp set in and as you say no one can hear you shout or scream in the middle of a huge lake or further out from the beach.

By the way didn't see Victory galleon ship yesterday as we were too busy walking around the huge shop complex and the docks... and it costs fffff'g £36 each to get in to see Victory so we scuttled that idea good

My story about swimming in short :

Back in time , my local swimming pool organized a lifeguard course..
My dad said to me : Just try it . Think you can do it.
I said OK .

The lifeguard course had 3 diciplines :
1 - Swim 1000 meters with clothes on , Jeans and sweater with long sleaves and boots.
2 - Swim 100 meters under water.
3 - Pick up a 45 KG dummy from the 5 meters depth and take it to the other side , and pull it out of the water. And start the CPR within 30 seconds.


Swimming 1000 meters with clothes on was far more difficult than I could imagine. That feels like the weight from a bulldozer in the water.
100 meters under water was doable for me.
But my first attempt to pick up the dummy went wrong . I picked up the dummy and swam to the other side with the dummy .
I was very proud , but they said to me that I failed . The dummy had drowned. (!)
The dummy had 2 small black dots (The eyes) That was the face of the dummy , I kept the dummy's face on my chest in the water .
I got 3 attempts to do it . Second attempt was success .
Got my lifeguard certificate , this means I'm a lifeguard .

BTW : 2 candidates from 15 made it . I was 16 YO . And still a boy (!)

Happy 73rd birthday to Nigel Mansell one of the greatest British racing drivers of all time and a man who provided Formula One fans with some unforgettable moments.

Mansell competed in Formula One across 15 seasons, racing for Lotus, Williams, Ferrari and McLaren. He won 31 Grands Prix, but the achievement he had chased for so long finally arrived in 1992 when he became Formula One World Champion with Williams.

His 1992 season was quite something. Mansell won nine races on his way to the championship and became the first driver to win nine Grands Prix in a single season.

But rather than defend his Formula One title, Mansell headed to America in 1993 to race for Newman/Haas in the CART IndyCar World Series and promptly won that championship as well. He became the first rookie to take pole position and win on his CART debut and ended the season as champion, making him the only driver to simultaneously hold the Formula One World Drivers’ Championship and the American open-wheel title.

Mansell later returned to Formula One with Williams and took his 31st and final Grand Prix victory in Australia in 1994. His final F1 appearances came with McLaren the following year. The moustache, the red number five and some absolutely brilliant battles made Mansell one of the most recognisable figures of his era.

'El Leone' was brought up in Brum and had menial jobs funding his F3 career, no born into riches like some for Nige, before being noticed by Lotus's Colin Chapman for his talent and taken on as a driver partnering de Angelis
At Spa in '87 he grabbed a recalcitrant Senna after they both crashed into one another, then in '91 at the BGP Mansell collected Senna on his cars' sidepod for a lift back to the pits when his Mclaren ran dry of fuel before the race ended.
