Boston Marathon - support a runner strategy

My brother is running Boston this year. I want to know the best way to support him at 4 places along the route.

Ideally, the places are: start, finish and 2 points mid-course.

I can imagine crowds and logistics are difficult. I have read that using the T train is recommended. I do want to avoid getting stuck before reaching walking distance to the finish line.

Has anyone been a spectator at the Boston Marathon, supporting another runner? Thanks for any comments.

Wish you the best of luck Boston becomes a nightmare on Marathon weekend. Influx of people is crazy. The T is your best bet. I did a no number run as I could never qualify when I was 20. That was quite sometime ago.
