iDrive4 to iDrive6

Hi I’m new to owning a BMW and I love it but I hate the ID4 screen and I was wondering how I could upgrade to ID6.

I have a BMW 118i 2016 which has Navigation I currently have BimmerCode and have changed a lot of things but the one thing I can’t figure out is if I was to buy the bigger screen and install it myself can I use BimmerCode to upgrade it or will I need to plug my laptop into the car and download an update?

If anyone could help I’d be highly grateful I know it’s not expensive to have a professional install it but I’d like to know how to do it myself as I don’t just want to modify my car but I want to be able to say I did it myself.

I have exactly the same situation.
I found out, you can flash ID4 to ID 6, you need to completely flash the head unit and you need FSC codes. Flashing takes about 40 minutes.

But there is one problem, on id4 2gb ddr, and on id5/6 4gb ddr.
Because of this, the head unit may sometimes reboot when using navigation.

If you have ID4, you CAN flash to ID6, but my advice is not to - the reason is ID4 is a more basic and less "graphically intensive" UI - meaning it requires less modern hardware to run it effectively - just look at the comparison between the ID4 list menu vs the ID6 "tiles" menu for a start.

If you want ID6, you CAN just buy a flash or do it yourself... but it may not be worth doing as the ID4 headunits often have just 2GB of RAM - and since ID6 is more intensive graphically, it would be slow, possibly unresponsive and your headunit would likely just reboot every so often, no doubt right when you needed it most.... (i.e navigation).

I would personally just replace the ID4 with an ID6 headunit.
