Tales from the front: No ADMs!

Just visited the local BMW dealer today to pick up a set of wipers for the X3, plus 2 bottles of water and a granola bar!

M5C and X3MC in the showroom with no ADM!

More than a few interesting cars on the lot, unsold. What is the world coming to?

In separate news, the local Porsche dealer has an unsold Panamera in the showroom, that is a change from no unsold cars in the showroom.

Location-dependent. In LA dealers seem to be charging $10k+ ADMs on the new M2. But I saw in other parts of the country dealers will sell for MSRP

That’s excellent news. I suspect as the economy continues to collapse what you are finding in your area will be more prevalent around the country. As for right now an M5 in my dealership would last about 15 minutes. I don’t think the ADMs that bad maybe 10 or 15K. Forget buying a Porsche in Tampa. They’re going to stick it to you still. But I’m sure that will change in the not too distant future. Luxury watches are also easier to get now unlike a couple years ago when the economy was rockin.

Cali dealers seems to have gotten away with ADMs for at least 30 years, even small ones. You’d think the internet would help abate it but I guess there are still plenty of people who don’t buy across state lines. The M2 in my local dealer was paid for by someone in California apparently and was still less expensive to buy from VA and ship across country back to California than it would have been to buy in-state.

Pricing seems to be very location specific. A friend picked up his M5, existing inventory on the lot, for $6k off msrp. This was in January. I haven't used a broker but may be the way to go next time.

The broker I used to purchase my wife’s X3 and my Z4 is advertising 4% off of MSRP for both the X3MC and M5C for west coast clients. If you’re east/Midwest, the M5C is 6% off. Don’t pay a dealer markup please.

BMW dealer in Utah had an X3MC in the showroom unsold about a week ago.
Porsche dealer had a few new Macan's and Cayenne's in the showroom, but that's it.

Some of the dealers in the Miami area are notorious for ADM's, especially when there were vehicle shortages during the height of the pandemic. You would walk into their showrooms and their sales people would act like they are doing you a favor. I would laugh at them and walk out immediately and while departing give them a few choice words.

Luckily my dealer of choice in Ft. Lauderdale didn't do this and treated every customer properly and that is the reason why I recommend them to all of my friends.
