Wastegate Rattle or Something else?
I have a 2014 F20 116i with 70k miles on the clock, I purchased it at 60k and got a stage 1 tune on it.
I've been noticing a rattle recently, Despite babying the car when cold and frequent oil top ups / changes. Listen to the 1 minute mark in this video, Does this sound like wastegate rattle? Or could it be something else like the cam chain or, dare I say rod bearings? I'm not a mechanic so any advice would be hugely appreciated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsffrZsQhQM |

It will be the wastegate rattling.
I solved mine by undoing the actuator nuts and inserting a slotted 1mm washer over the stud between the actuator and bracket to take up the slack. It's easier than adjusting the linkage as no heatshield removal is necessary. Been noise free for 6months. |

I used two 1mm mudguard washers with 6mm slot for the actuator stud. Undo the nuts, slide in the washers, tighten up the nuts. Yes, I did notice a slight increase in respsonivness after I did it. |

Anti rattle spacers.
Here is a photo showing the two washers.
These were about 30mm diameter 6mm bore with a slot 6mm wide cut from edge to the centre so they can be slid over the actuator retaining stud. Undo the nuts to the end of their thread so you can easily slide the washers in and then retighten. |
