Make sure they have the tires have the star mark on them if you have an xDrive and still in warranty. If you don't get the star mark, and something goes wrong with your transfer box, BMW will not replace it under warranty...

So far so good, but have in mind it is only 2 seasons I have used it with this setup. Anyway 225/45/R17 is a standard size for F20 and (I guess) the difference in circumference with 8J rim is well within the allowed.

There should be no difference - tyre width is the same 225 so it will fit the same way on 8J rim. Squared 225/40/R18 is also a standard setup for F20.

Just to report back as it might be useful for others - I have swapped my staggered Bridgestone Potenza S001's setup 225/45&245/40/R17 for squared 225/45/R17 Michelin PS4 ZPs. I have done approximately 5000 km until now on them...and I am very happy! Wet grip is vastly improved, now I can drive with confidence when it rains. On wet surface with S001 I had the feeling like I am driving over a thin ice - I was "afraid" to touch the brakes or the throttle. There was this feeling like the car will slip out of the bend every time I was cornering. Nothing even remotely similar with the PS4s - wet braking feels excellent and always under control, when cornering the car feels holding its line effortlessly.
On dry roads the grip is great, I could say tenacious The car grips and corners without any hint of slipping out. Braking is stable. I rarely hear any tire squeaks when cornering or braking. The only good point I feel the S001 had is having the sensation like the car is rolling less in corners. I guess this might be due to the stiffer sidewalls of the Potenzas. But this might be also the reason why PS4s feel more comfortable. So far no issues with me using squared setup winter and summer, instead of the staggered factory setup. PS. I drive quite regularly over the same twisty mountainous roads that I know the corners and enter/exits speeds, so I can make proper comparison. |

It's funny, the staggered setup looks so cool and gives plenty of street cred...but it makes the handling safe and understeery. My previous 1'er was square and felt far more neutral in cornering.
PS4 is great tyre, it performs very well in dry, even some track use and is still able to grip in wet weather. |
