2015 F20 LCI 118i M Sport Winter Tires
Hi all,
I 've got style 383 M rims with 225/45/17 & 245/40/17 summer tires on the car. Which winter tires and rims should I put on? Should I use the 383 M rims or buy another set? Any suggestions? thanks |

Our 2016 118i M-Sport was equipped with style 381 and 225/45/17 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 runflat tyres front and rear for winter use. They are easy to clean, and the tyres get decent reviews. I haven't really had the chance to test them in very slippery conditions yet, but they are comfortable to drive on now, before the winter really kicks in.

It depends on the weather conditions you aim (is there any winter in Greece at all? ) and your preference. It's up to you: another set will cost. So will seasonal change at a tire workshop. You should choose a complete wheel set if you can store it, ready to DIY and ready for the cost (including getting rid of unless reusable with your next car). Otherwise consider tire storage/change prices to decide (a whole set is faster/cheaper to swap but more expensive to store). I bought my OEM winter wheel set at a BMW dealer's spring sale off (one week after placing an order for the car). Relatively attractive. Yes they are. You can choose here and query a dealer for the quote. Here are the part numbers for "turbine styling 381" already mentioned (I have those too with Nokian Hakkapeliitta R but they are cold winter tires incidentally.). |

Thanks. I see style 381 are the only ones they fit and they clear M sport brakes.
I will check with UK dealers for a deal. Greek dealers probably will be too expensive. I need winter tires for European trips during the winter. |

I have the same setup as 1SolidF20 383 wheels with summer tyres 225/45/R17 front and 245/40/R17 rear. I want to put on runflat winter tyres - can I go with 225/45/R17 tyres on the rear? I think the rims are 7.5Jx17 front and 8Jx17 rear. Any issues with the winter tyre being narrower on the rear rim?
Any suggestions on the tyres - I have a choice of Michelin Alpin 5 ZP, Conti WinterContact 830P SSR and Dunlop WinterSport 4D ROF, all same price. Any opinions will be helpful. |

I think 225 in the rear would work fine. And I am still happy with the Nokian tyres. I guess they are slight more hard-core winter tyres than your 3 options.

Thank you ovekvam!
I am gravitating towards the Michelins as the Conti TS830 is really an old model - already TS860 is being in use nowdays. Don't need a real hardcore winter rubber as 80% of the winter driving here is done on wet/dry road. One additional question - when changing tyres the valves stay the same(attached to the rims) and TPMS works as usual? |

Thank you ovekvam! I will change and share some impressions of the tyres here. It is considered that runflats have come a long way since introduction, but I doubt they are on par with their "standard" siblings. Even on Conti's website TS830 SSR is rated as E for wet braking, while the "normal" is C-rated...

My Bridgestone S001 summer runflats are certainly not on par with regular summer tyres, and they will be recycled now. A set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres will replace them for next summer season. The winter runflats from Nokian are okay, so they will stay.

I am also not that happy with Bridgestone S001, will see how the winter run flats perform.
EDIT: I fitted Michelin's Alpin 5 ZP 225/45 R17 both front and rear. First impression from ride and handling are positive. Tyres were performing good on snow so far. As for the fit - the rear tyre does not cover the wider rim quite as well as the 245 does. Also the Michelins are lacking the rim protection ridge(that e.g. Conti's have), so the wheel seems more prone to scratching. Last edited by zlatko; 11-27-2017 at 07:02 PM.. |
